I wanted to find out why some boots wear out while others just seem to last. I also wanted to know how to pick the right work boot for the Job site. So I went to Keen headquarters. I also wanted to see if they are really American Built -Why concrete work will tear a pair of boots apart and how to buy the right boot for the right conditions-especially landscaping, lawncare and in general construction.

I’ve been wearing keens for 12 years and I won’t lie before they switched to American production they were made in China about two years ago. They were still very comfortable but after about 8 months the sole bonding or the toe rubber would separate. I still bought them because they were so comfortable on my feet and most importantly my back. The quality since they went to American production is night and day. I bought a pair the first time the American version was available and they are still holding up. The support is also better in these. They also make my red wings feel flat footed and heavy. The keens never get wet inside, every other brand I’ve owned have gotten soggy even when spraying a can of kiwi or mink oil on them.

Those met guards are great for welders. I dropped a solid stainless steel bar 1"x4"x50" off the bench and it left a stamp in the concrete floor. That lands on the top of your foot and your in a foot brace or cast for over a month. The outer shell guard is great too because it keeps sparks from burning up your laces 🔥

I’ve just ordered me a keen utility mid Braddock. I’m a UPS package delivery driver and I’m fighting the weather at all the time. I’ve read so many good reviews on keen work boots and I’ve decided to buy me a pair. I’m hoping that my new keen boots will do me good. If it does, I will try one of the backpacking boots from keen as well. My new boots will arrive in two days... I can’t wait to put on my new keen utility mid Braddock.

I work in a wastewater plant. As a 65 year old, who has worked industrial jobs since 1973. Machine shops, Stationary/Operating Engineer, or even as a truck driver. Your feet like rotating your boots for freshness. I have lace ups, and pull ons. All are safety toe and waterproof. I try and buy ESD rated also. I work 12 hour or longer shifts. I own Keen's, Red Wings, Thorogood, Wolverine, Carhartt, and Hytest. I have an old work injury on the right foot arch. So many of the boots have custom footbeds. For casual wear I mostly wear Keen sandals.

I love all these videos. I really would like to see some drainage work videos. Here in NC 80% of our calls is for drainage work. It pays great but just want to see how we do compared to the legends in the industry with quoting and execution. We do everything from French drains to culverts and learning how to pick which drain is best for the issue sometimes gets tricky.

I've had my redwings for 10 years and beat the fire out of them. When I called all the redwing stores in a 100 plus mile radius looking for a 14eee they had nothing. I was surprised that the last store told me that I should check out keen for the wider toe and the quality. I'm loving them and when I climb in and out of the semi I don't have to change since they're comfortable enough for driving.

If you want really good boots look at Nicks or Franks custom boots they are handmade in America i use to only wear redwings, but was tired of buying new boots every year. I have only had my nicks for about six months but they are way more comfortable than redwings. The nice thing about the handmade boots is they can be re-soled and rebuilt. The only drawback is they are heavy boots

I get a 300$ boot voucher every year at work and I've been at my job for 10 years which has allowed me to try every high end manufactured boot from red wing timberland pro Carolina to name a few. Keen are hands down the most comfortable boots I've worn and they last just as long as other boots I've named. Also keen dry doesn't fail within 6 months unlike gortex and whatever Red Wing Carolina use make my feet wet after an hour of work. I love the davinport and Dover because I put on a lot of miles on a daily basis. I can't go back to any heavy lug soles boots.

I wear meta tech stc boots the first 3 weeks you will hate them but after they break in they are great. I usually get a year or so out of the, due to mud , acidic water, cement , oil etc from a mine.. but the last pair are over 1.5 years old and still don't leak. I have beeen spraying them with fluid film weekly it seams to keep the boots from rotting quite well. Don't have much of a choice since the company pays 1/2 at their selected retailer.

I wear my Keens (Pittsburgh 6") every day. I work in a machine shop environment, and split my time between shop & office. I was previously wearing Georgia boots for years that would usually last me 12-18 months. Keens were very comfortable, but I blew out the sides of the Keens at the flex in 5-months, not impressed. I was, however, impressed that Keen honored their warranty and is sending me a replacement pair with no hassles. I ordered a different style (Philadelphia) with the 3/4 welt sole. We'll see if they hold up better... Had the stink problem with the Keen's, which I never had with the Georgia's until the last pair I bought (same as previous style pairs I was wearing for years). I'm wondering if it has something to do with a change in materials...

Sorry I'm not mentioning a Made in USA product. But I recently started wearing a pair of Ariat Mens Rebar 6" H2O Composite Toe work boots. So far they are amazing! I hate a big clunky boot. Especially with how I'm constantly moving around, up and down off the truck, through rain and mud. These Ariat boots are very light and they feel like a pair of tennis shoes on my feet. I'm 6'4" 250 lbs. and I'm hard on boots. But so far these boots seem to be pretty tough. And they have the main qualities I was looking for: waterproof, good support, traction, and composite toes.

I love danner boots, I worked in the prison as a guard. Then worked in a casino. Gortex plus walking on concrete floors all the time. Then if you want them rebuilt you can send them back with money, they will rebuild them for you. With me, uppers and insoles are great, tread wears out. I can get new treads and maybe new shank but everything else it broke in. No breaking period, they are also in Portland. They are heavy but 20 years wearing them, I don’t notice it anymore.

Love the education of the keen boots. I wonder if keen can make boots to withstand 5 years of new England hell of season both for sub zero winters and 100+° summers and still feel comfortable. I ask because I burn thru boots in 3 to 9 month as Indy contractor and in the winters here in Connecticut I need a decent part of boots to keep my feet warm and dry for those long 20 to 48 hours of snow removal and during the summer my feet become over heated that they start to bleed from the intense pain they indure from 8 to 10 hour days I put in on multiple surfaces. I can go from a flat concrete floor to a incline of a roof to replace or fix a roof and of all things have to worry about have a nail going thru the bottom of my boots from leveling out a dumpster of waste material.

After reading the comments I don't feel so bad about my Rocky boots opening up on both the insides at the ball of the foot. The leather came apart from the sole and now it's wide open. Other than that the boots are still in great condition so I just keep wearing them this way. I do landscaping so plenty of shovel digging, planting, kneeling, tree trimming, walking through stacks of branches etc. It took them about 5-6 months to start separating. After reading the comments I think I'll look at thorogood, nicks, and Carolina for my next pair.

Personally I wear Ariat work boots and never have a problem. They are super comfy and I have consistently gotten 3-4 years out of each pair. We do excavation work so I am in the dirt, mud, rocks all day everyday.

Danner has been the only boot I can get to last a full season plus. All others have came apart and started leaking. They have a few pair that are stitched soles those are what I buy. Keens did fit good , but when spending $150-$250 on boots longevity has to factor in.

I started out with a pair of Keen Lansing's earlier this year and on day 2 I busted a lace loop. They warrantied the boot and I picked a pair of the Tucson's. The Tucson is the most comfortable best feeling boots I have ever put on. I guess I am just rough on footwear because the side of the boot it blowing out and the soles are already starting to wear through. Unfortunately for me they don't and won't warranty a boot that I got from a previous warranty. Maybe I am in the wrong boot. I wish they had warrantied the second pair.

Have you ever heard of Bogs brand? I've had a pair since April of this year, & work on a ranch with a finishing feedlot. Very comfortable, but the stitched seam on the inside of both feet has failed.

Love your channel and work ethic! Wish I had somebody in Georgia to work for like you. Only thing I don’t understand why it says Made in China on the boot. Do they use globally sourced products like DEWALT?

Love the keens , but in my experience you really have to carefully pick and choose , now 12 years ago never had a issue with any model . Curious if anyone else has experience certain models not being up to par?

Completely agree! I only get a couple uses out of each pair of gloves. And honestly my guys prefer the disposable gloves with rubber palms because every other glove I used just isn’t impressive.

Not for colde weather but for 50degrees ,spring n summer best gloves for carpenters is "coolmax" .they are much better than the dollar glovee homedepot aella which are blue n red palms...they are same price tenpack $10. They last much much longer, one will last you 6mths to 1 year.try em at homedepot

I know this is an old video, but when I was going through commercial driving school the first time I climbed up on a truck I was wearing a pair of nikes I could feel the metal steps through the bottom of Nike's (disclaimer, I am a fat man). I talked to a guy and he suggested RedWings, so I went to a redwings store and they fitted me out in a pair of steel toed mid cut boots. I was back no less then 2 weeks later buying another pair without the steel toe just for regular wear. This was back in 2016. I won't say they look new, and I have worn out the original insole, but man do I love my Redwings. now when ever I run into a guy he stands up all day long I suggest redwings to him or her. I do agree with the toe cap, that is the one thing I hate about my redwings with the steel toe, I can feel how cramped my toes are under the cap.

I'm really hard on boots, I've got a short leg so one foot wears much faster and the other foot wears the inside out fast. Any thing with the soft foam lasts 3 months till im walking out the inside. I need hard rubber... A redwing will last 11 months. I paid the piper and bought a Hathorn logger it was very expensive $300. 2.5 years later they are ready to be repaired. They are wildland fire ceritified. So great for welding in. I build fence by myself, sometimes miles from cell service so ankle support and traction is vital. One fall prevented could be life saving as sometimes no one knows exactly where im at... My next boot will be whites...hathorns big brother. They are custom molded to your feet. They first week is heck on your feet, but after that they are the most comfortable you'll ever have.

Man I loved my keens but my bottoms are coming off and it hasn’t even been a year. On top of one of the eye loops just breaking off. I love how keens feel and loved wearing but sadly for spending almost 200 dollars on a pair of boots. My timber lands out lasted them.

my experience with metatarsal is it sucks until it saves you. i worked in the steel and aluminum industry seemed to me when something dropped it misses the metatarsil barely and rails the side of your foot. i wish companies (i used redwing) would expand the plate an inch or 2 wider. also the damn guard catches everything

I wear a pear of keen boots, I work in a factory so i dont walk too much and I'm not really hard on them. They don't breathe at all, sweat collects in puddles on the sole. They fell apart in 4 months. The heel ripped out of one and the toe ripped out of the other. Theyre comfortable though even without much padding.
