I don’t know whether to do just three and potentially prevent ‘diluting’ my grades or go for the four.

I am currently in lower 6th form and study maths, physics, chemistry and biology. Make sure to look at university courses that you want to do and their A-level requirements. A levels are a big step up, but they're not that bad if you put the work in. The sciences do have some overlap, so they complement each other. I didn't decide my 4th A level (physics) until after I got my results, I thought about doing geography before, but eventually decided on it due to my grades. This was not a bad choice, getting As in it. Remember that you can read up on subjects outside of the A level, by doing the EPQ in it, if you do not want to do the full A level.

I'm taking biology chemistry history and psychology and took history and psychology as a sort of rest from the sciences as they're hard but I love all my courses and I wasn't sure what to take originally as I had no idea what to do in the future but I would advise to keep your options open for what you'd do at Uni as you don't want to restrict yourself and then not want to be in the career that the subjects you choose lead to. Take a wide range :)

My friend wants to go into engineering in the future so is taking physics and maths. She's not the best at maths either so I'd take those subjects and two or one other that doesn't replace to them for example geography or history for example and then you may find come to do the a level course you might not enjoy maths and physics as much and may come to love the other subject you do. Keep your options open and look ahead into uni and see what courses you're interested in and see if they have any specific a level requirements and the grades needed then think realistically if you think you'll be viable for the subject!! :)

Olivia Stobbie I did maths and physics for two of my A levels, and loved it, so I would definitely recommend them! 😊 To be honest, the way to get a good grade in maths is just do lots of practise (what I did at got an A*!) so if you're willing to put the effort in (which I assume you are from the fact you love them haha) you should be able to do well 😊
@Outlaw75027 жыл бұрын
Olivia Stobbie well most sixth forms require you to get an A at least in maths GCSE to do it at A level, so if you don't get an A/close B I wouldn't recommend doing it as it is extremely challenging.

I have chosen: Business Studies, Computer Science, Triple Science (Triple: Chemistry, Biology, Physics). The paper typed that: Pick one from this side, and pick 2 from the other, and a backup (I chose PE pathway1/2 Idk the difference, apparently, one of it is the work side, the other is the ACTUALLY physically PE ting). However, I picked 2 from this side, 1 from another since one of those subjects I really wanted to do but wasn't in that category, it was in the other. (The side where you can only pick 1). And so, I was like, you know what, I'mma do 2 from this side, 1 from another even though it's 1 from this side, 2 from another. And yes, THEY LET ME, WEEEWWWWWWWW! (I didn't had to do the Backup since there was space for me, LUCKILY!). (Edited) Auto-Corrected the term "Business studies". (Re.Edited) (You only pick a backup just in case you didn't went/go/not enough room/space to be in that subject, so the spaces are limited). (Re.EditedV2) (I'm typing about the GCSE course I'm gonna do).

I'm in Y12, wanting to change all of my A-levels from English Lit, Sociology and Philosophy to: Physics, Maths and Chemistry. This means restarting Y12 and resitting GCSE maths. My school strongly advised against this (understandably), but I decide my future, and I have always wanted to do Aerospace engineering in an apprenticeship after Y13. How did this happen? Firstly, I chose English etc. because I did not meet the Maths grade needed to take science. Unfortunately, I did not distribute revision time evenly with the sciences and Maths. I had a natural aptitude for Maths, so i thought I could get on fine. I thought that I could somehow force myself to love English, Sociology and Philosophy and that I would end up doing Law in university. But, I hated the essay dense homework, although I am a hard worker- it's just not my passion. So, yeah. I screwed up. But can my sixth-form really force me to continue with my current A-levels? I'd be incredibly unhappy with my future job! Stay safe everyone! :)

I am finding it so difficult to choose only 2-3 subjects for A-level since I like Bio, Physics, Chemistry, Math, English, Arts however I can't obviously choose them all. I thought to be a doctor but I am afraid of so many things, there are other options when looking at medical such as pharmacist, dentist, etc but I am not interested in those. I feel if I choose Biology and Chemisry, I might get bored and tired of them later on. I personally love architecture too but then it's just the same case, afraid of getting bored with it later on. I don't know if this all make any sense, but I'll be grateful if anyone can give me some advise as to what to do?
@sarahgough9997 жыл бұрын
We're in a similar situation:') I'd advise you to take a mixture of A Levels - maybe Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Art since Biology, Chemistry and Maths are good for medicine, and Maths and Art are good for Architecture. You can always change your options a few weeks into the course if you change your mind and don't like a particular subject at A Level. Taking a mixture would also mean you won't be limiting yourself to one path, and should keep you interested for another couple of years before you have to narrow it down again. Good luck!!

Honestly I would. If you honestly like each of them languages then yes definitely. Just make sure you are confident with the workload. I want to study biology in university but I hate maths. So I thought I would be taking biology, chemistry and psychology for my A-levels. Is that a good choice?

I really love computing, and I love learning certain parts of the GCSE subject as well, but there are some parts I truly despise. Not because I hate the topic itself, but for me the time it takes to learn it seems endless. I don't know if I should take computing A-level :(

I'm currently in year 10 and am looking at what A levels i should look at, and the GCSE grades i need ect. I have a huge interest in subjects like History, Sociology and I have currently come across Psychology or maybe Government & Politics. I was just wondering if anyone has done or knows someone who takes either subject so I could know more about the subject and wither its for me. Thank you! Xx

I want to take history, geography, psychology and one other subject for A level next year but can't decide between business studies and biology!! Any advise on this combination?!?
@batoolhams7 жыл бұрын
Beth Langley biology would be a better subject as it is linked to psychology
@sarahgough9997 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would definitely take biology - it links to psychology, and also any A Levels with "studies" at the end are considered soft by universities, so unless you're really interested in it, I'd advise you not to take it :)

Beth Langley BIOLOGY. BUISNESS STUDIES IS USELESS AND POINTLESS AND BORING AND STUPID.
@xxemilyjanexx49207 жыл бұрын
Beth Langley hey! I currently do business studies at Gcse and love it! Although biology is a great subject, it really does depend on what you want to do. If you're looking into universities/further education after college then maybe biology is better option. As at the end of the day if you want to do business in college you may as well do it straight after college instead of Uni. All in all, go with your passion and interests like eve said, don't do a subject you regret and will never use!
@bethlangley54857 жыл бұрын
XxEmilyJanexX Thank you xx The problem is I really don't know what I want to do after A levels and at the moment Uni doesn't really appeal to me!! At the moment I'm leaning towards biology but I am worried that it will be too difficult and stressful!! At this point I think I just want to keep my options open but business could be good for that too!! 😩😬

I am choosing French, Spanish, Biology and Chemistry!:)
@saraho54887 жыл бұрын
QuiettePeakActually I want to take French and another language but I only did French at GCSE, do you know if I will be able to do another language I have no experience in?
@adriennesamantha7 жыл бұрын
Sarah O Yes if you speak to that language teacher and you're prepared to do a lot of work over the holidays! :) To be honest you could probably fit a year into three months easy! If I was you I would speak to the teacher and make it clear that you're really eager and then they can help you. What I would do is learn all of the GCSE vocab which you can find on Quizlet or Memrise normally - if not make your own account. Personally, I love Memrise. Then I would start watching films in that language so you're used to hearing it then when you're confident enough do the GCSE reading past papers and listening papers. The listening can be quite hard in any language so make sure you have a strong knowledge of it all! Personally I would learn all the vocab and watch films until three weeks before the start of the year and then work really hard to complete past papers. This will get you in the learning frame of mind before school starts! I think it is very doable as long as you're hardworking. What language are you thinking of choosing?xx
@saraho54887 жыл бұрын
QuiettePeakActually thankyou very much! I am actually still doing my GCSE's (I'm going into yearI11 in September) but i really want to have a career in languages, I was considering taking either Italian or Spanish (probably Spanish as where I will probably go to do it doesn't do Italian I don't think)
@adriennesamantha7 жыл бұрын
Sarah O Aahh! Good luck! Yes they are both nice languages - Italian is basically a mixture of Spanish and French! 😁😀 If you want any help for Spanish then you can ask me if you want and we can contact each other!

I'm definitely doing maths and biology at a level but I don't know what to do for my third and possibly fourth. I was think chemistry (but I don't enjoy it at all) or geography (but I didn't take it at GCSE and my parents tell me not to) even though I want to do down the biology route. Can you help me?
@sarahgough9997 жыл бұрын
If you didn't take geography at GCSE I'd suggest that you don't take it - it's building on what you learnt at GCSE so you'd have to work really hard to catch up! Chemistry would go really well with Biology and Maths(especially if you're considering going into medicine since it's very competitive), but if you don't enjoy it then I wouldn't take it because it'll be a lot of work so you won't really be motivated. Although you may enjoy it more at A Level - it could be your current teacher that makes you dislike the subject? You could also take a look at the syllabus to see if it seems more interesting than GCSE. However, if you still don't really want to take it, and just considering taking it because you feel like you should, then I wouldn't take it. If you have a variety of interest in subjects, I'd suggest maybe to take completely contrasting subjects like English Lit - then you won't get bored having similar subjects, and may even decide to go into this subject further, and would show that you have a wide skill set, from being logical to being analytical etc. If you are interested mostly only in sciences, I'd advise you to take Physics since it would fit well with your options. Hope this helped you a little bit! Good luck!!

I was considering choosing, art, photography and drama but none of them are academic. So I was thinking, should I switch photography with geography, because I got an A star in my mocks for it, however I don't like geography...and it the only academic thing I'm actually good at. I don't know what to do really?

Francesca Pajovic I feel like I have the same issue. I don't really know what I want to go into and I want to do English Literature, English Language, Media and Music and I'm concerned I don't have a mathematical or scientific subject. My sixth form application has to be in Friday and I'm really stressed. In my opinion I'd say go with what you like because you'll be spending so much time on the subject.
@bertiecooper66987 жыл бұрын
Francesca Pajovic If you want to go down an arts route then I wouldn't think not choosing an academic subject would matter

If you're not interested in the 'academic' subjects, don't take them! If you're definitely not going to take them further than A Level, there's no point taking them, unless they will help you get into university etc. However, in your case, I think this won't be true, since you don't need an 'academic' subject to get onto one of these courses. I'd only advise you to take an 'academic' subject if you were interested in a wide area of subjects. In my opinion, take what you're interested in - the subjects you listed seem to compliment each other since they are all creative, and you'd probably do well in them, too, since you're interested in them.
