For me personally I absolutely love the Fender Princeton Reverb. It is by far the best amp I have ever owned. It pulls rich tones out of any guitar I plug into it. The onboard reverb and trem effects are perfect.

I have my Yamaha THR in the living room. Its quiet, has wireless built in (no cable for someone to trip over) and sounds good for clean stuff. Also obviously has the standard modeling perks, so i can plug some headphones in if i want, it has bluetooth etc and, most importantly, I can just have it on the shelf and it looks good enough that it doesnt annoy my girlfriend...

Love your takes on all these topics! I plug my Fender Mustang Micro into my Duesenberg. I then listen through IEMs and connect to backing tracks through Blue Tooth. This lets me govern the volume without bothering the family. Our band doesn't rehearse together. We get chord charts and backing tracks from a scheduling APP. Works perfectly!

Baxter and Jonathan, I know you’re not into this, but I use a Spark, a cheap rechargeable wireless system that I got from Amazon, and a CS relic Strat. I don’t use all of the one million things available on the Spark. I made one great clean tone, and one edge of breakup tone and that’s what I use. The amp sits in the unit I have for television and audio, and it just looks like a decent Bluetooth speaker. It’s loud enough for what I’m using it for. It really works well which surprised me because I’m not normally a modeler user.

Agreed. I have a small tube amp and some pedals in the basement but I use the Spark 90% of the time. I’ve programmed the 4 presets to suit everything I need. Definitely not using all of the options but it’s only a quick flip through the app if I need something more.

My perfect "living room" set-up won't score any points for style and kudos, but it happened totally by chance this year - and, would you believe it - it had to be on April Fool's Day! It'd been a tough week at work and I needed to play a bit to unwind. I couldn't be bothered messing about with my usual set-up, so I just plugged my Tonefox Elcaster into my old Yamaha THR10C which had sat semi-forgotten for months. I couldn't even find a pick when I needed it - and I don't normally play without one - but I just wanted to play. And... the result was one of those wonderful WTF moments we dream of in music! The little Yammy had been left dialled in for a perfect edge-of-breakup bluesy tone, and the Elcaster's custom P90s were so expressive played finger-style, I accidentally stumbled onto a sound I've tried to get for years - the perfect combination - going from crystal clean to "valve-like" overdriven purely by the most subtle touch, with a greater range of tones than I'd get with a pick! I've never thought of myself as a "tone chaser" - I've always basically made do with whatever - but that evening opened my ears to a tangible difference. And now I'm left wondering how it happened with a THR10C! I guess it's proof that, just occasionally, magic really does happen!

I don't know how many folks know about the amp put out by Ibanez back in 2011. It's a 15, switchable to 5 watts all tube head, with white tolex, 3 12ax7's, and 2 6V6's, and a 1x12 cabinet with a Celestion Seventy-80. The amp has so much headroom that to get any dirt you have to dime it, but it has an amazing built in high gain Tube Screamer ( It's an 8, or 9 depending on the spec sheet?), that takes it from a clean Fenderesque sound to a pure Plexi sound. I bought it new in 2011, and took the head to my friend Tom Rodriguez's shop, and played through his Plexi with 4 25W Greenbacks, then plugged the same guitar through the Ibanez head, and into the 4x12 Marshall cab, and the only difference was the Plexi was a bit louder, but the Sounds/Tones were almost Identical. The tubes were very small, cheap Chinese, so I replaced them with JJ's, and it made a world of difference. These days I could probably use it live, but I was so happy they put out a 30 watter, but it had PC board mounted tube sockets, and after 3 returns for noises, and hum that was unbearable, I got my money back, and though I have a Reeves with less than 10 total hours, the Ibanez is the only amp I've used since trying the Reeves which is very similar sounding, but way too loud to be played at home. Lastly Baxter, I just got a message from "what's App" about your KZbin site, and before I think about answering it, (KZbin, and Email), I'll give you a call Tomorrow. sorry so long, but if you have not heard of this amp, It is one of the best sounding amps I've owned in 40 years of playing through Boogies, Marshall, Fender, HiWatt, Reeves, Laney, Peavey, and many, many more. the only thing I want to do to it to make it perfect is to swap the speaker for a 25 watt Greenback Peace, call you tomorrow, Keith in RVA

I can’t afford a living room rig yet but when I can I will definitely go with a relic guitar. As much as you call your kids monsters it’s clear how much you love them and it’s so sweet

I have a Vox VT40+ and it's awesome. Has a bunch of effects and reverb on it and can even change to different style amps. Has a tube in it as well. 350 bucks new. I even plug my acoustic L-00 into it and it sounds good.

Happy with my Spark on the side table. And we use the Bluetooth to play background music when relaxing, reading or for company. Conversely, I also have a Hotone Purple Haze hidden behind a basket leading to a 1x12 cab behind my dad-chair. My 50w tube Amp and 2x12 stack remains tucked in the garage.

My living room rig for a very long time has been my Xbox with Rocksmith ... a guitar stand, a volume pedal, and the cable. That is, until I took over the small bedroom and turned it into my studio...

What about a Vox Súper Beetle? That would be pleasing to look at. Plus very budget friendly.

Wait, you can set up in your living room?!! My wife has been lying to me all these years. The Pro Reverb will fit perfectly next to the shelves filled with art glass and get rid of the candles on the coffee table to make room for the pedal board. Take down some art work and hang a couple of guitars. Do you think it would be cool to set up my bass rig too?

I live in a small apartment and love my Fender Mustang LT-25. Modeling amp with tons of preset amps and effects, 25w, 8" speaker and only $180 new. Sounds great, and looks good. Headphone jack and USB in/out so you can record into your computer and Fender Tone free software that makes it super easy to experiment and play with the settings and sounds.

Fender Blues Jr. works well for my living room - although I am considering a 25W Mesa Rectifier with one 12" speaker. I suspect even this Mesa could be overkill. But not like a Revv Generator :)

I have two set ups at the house, in my living room I have a small blackstar ht20 head with matching cab that has a single 12 with a boss ms3 for fx its a really compact set up that fits just about anywhere. In the back room I have two 100 watt heads (plexi copy with an attenuator and a dual rec) with one 4-12 and one 2-12 that I have hooked up together with an ABY switcher. This set up is loud but Im still able to play at a low level in either set up

I guess mine is a Mustang Micro. I used to use my old Marshall solid state 15 watt. That looked the part and the sound was honestly pretty great for what it was. I gifted it to a younger guitar player that needed an upgrade.

I have a VOX DA20 and it is perfect for my living room. To get an overdrive or dirty sound I change the "style" of amp and it is perfect. Of course that only works on the 1/2 watt setting !

I've really enjoyed this video - 15 minutes of rambles, brilliant. You two make a great double act!. Nevertheless, my current favourite living room amp has to be the Vox AC4tv, with a built in attenuator it gives great sound. I'm not sure I need any other amp...damn it!

I have a Monoprice 15 watt tube amp that has a nice cream/vintage look to it. It has a attenuator that keeps the volume down, simple controls but does have reverb so I can get by with just the amp and no pedals. I found the trick to the living room setup is a small cheap wireless unit so I don’t have to have a 1/4 cable snaking around. I can keep a nice looking guitar on a stand, flip a couple switches and play for a bit then put it down with minimal cleanup. I usually play my Fender Bronco so the wireless unit sits on the body and not on the end of the guitar. Looks nice, is affordable, is easy to use, tolerated by my wife, and is fun for me to not have to retreat to my small dungeon under the stairs that holds a bigger setup.

My living room amp is a 59-60(?) Fender tremolux , it does look nice the tweed is dark and stained. It's probably too loud but I live alone and in my mind it's too old and fragile for a gig or practice space and it really should be played, the only pedal most of the time is a Lovepedal COT volume/gain boost and I jumper the channels, my favorite home guitar is my danelectro baritone tuned bass6 E-E which sounds so damn amazing in that set-up with the tremolo set a subtle warble ,,,, god tone

My youngest child is 10 and my dogs are pretty well trained so I get to leave my gear out now without people and dogs touching, dropping, sniffing and licking. My son likes to jam along sometimes too! I have half a man cave; my wife gets the other half for a painting studio; my half is also my office but I have enough room for a “jam corner.” Been collecting gear for almost 30 years so I’m blessed to have a nice rig for living room gigs. Nothing compared to Rick Beato but I can get just about any sound you’d like, unless you’re into modern metal. The only thing I lack is time to play, but it’s a nice view from my desk while I’m working, and sometimes I jam on my lunch break; been working from home for over 10 years.
