I saw an interview with people who trained to be pickpockets and one of the guys said that when he's mastered it he did it once and never again. Bc it had like $30 in it. He realised that for some random person on the street $30 is a lot of money, it might be all they have left after bills. He felt so overwhelmed by guilt that he gave the wallet back. It was an interesting perspective!

Here in the Philippines, they will do this while you're moving. One will block your way to slow you down, the other guy is behind to het whatever they can get ( wallet, phone) , then pass it on to another accomplice, and then to the other... I experienced this and when I finally noticed what they've done, I confronted onenof the accomplice and they had to "drop" it due to the commotion I created- the bus driver even stepped out, and he's a hulk! And of course, the bystanders were also getting ready if something arises. Just to remind everyone. If you noticed " strangers" giving signals, they are definitely working together. Actually, even the bus drivers knew right away if they are pickpockets and will warn the passengers, if they get off. That's an affirmative reaction.

A common tactic in some places is a pickpocket will have their partner "find" a prop wallet on the ground and ask people in the general area "is this your wallet?" What about storing these things not in easily accessible pockets? In Winter it's pretty easy because winter jackets often have pockets inside the jacket, so you have to open first the jacket and then a zipper to get your money. Or there are backpacks that have pockets on the backside. I am female I do not even have pockets to put stuff in. So I mostly have a small over the shoulder bag with zippers and when people are really tight packed I hold the package with my hand and have it always in the front. This way nobody can cut the the shoulder strap and run off with the whole thing. And yes when you are in a small village it's unlikely to get pick pocket. But in a big city using public transport or some packed place, do not have your money easily accessible.

This is why Zippers are important. A simple satchel zipped up, that you keep a firm hand over, is essentially impossible to pickpocket, especially if you buried the wallet on the very bottom. @@coliedug7383 ok so everybody give it a shot and let's all see who sticks to holding the bag, i guarantee you a majority of the people receiving this advice are gonna give up on holding it all the time unless something happens with the bag before then, which is gonna lead a lot of people to taking the advice but not fully following it, in turn probably leading more theft overall, you'd want something that holds closer to you, so if someone's fidgeting with it all you'll feel it, a satchel is a big issue in that regard because it has a longer strap on it, honestly if this is you're idea of how to avoid a pick pocket, use a purse with a short strap and zipper, that way, it'll never be out of your sight cuz it'll either be under your arm or in your hand, and unzipping something that someone's holding in their hand or under their arm, is very difficult without it being incredibly obvious

I understand pickpockets are real and they get away with this kind of stuff all the time, but it's so confusing to me because I am always aware of what's in my pockets. Most times I can feel the weight or the volume of the items in my pockets, and even in the rare cases where they start to "blend in" and be unnoticeable, it automatically prompts me to pat my pockets to make sure everything is still there. I pat them probably 5 or 6 times a day, usually when I enter or leave a place, and I'm VERY conscious of anyone making any physical contact with me, but I also live on the west coast so not a lot of super crowded areas (subways, etc.) out here.

I was wearing one of those soft backpack purses with the drawstrings. It was for makeup and personal care products only. My school backpack on the floor in front of me had anything of value in it. This kid thought he would be slick and try to get into my purse while I was wearing it. I could feel him gently tugging on the strings. I turned a couple times to look at him and he would play innocent. The final time I felt him pulling on the strings, I didn't even turn around, I just said loud enough for him and others around him to hear, "The only thing in that purse is makeup. If you really need some I can lend some to you." The kids around him started giggling at him and he stopped trying to get into my purse.

I’ve always wanted to try to learn to sew hidden pockets onto my clothes, like on the insides of jackets. And now I think I shall lol

Sewing isn't too difficult, really! It's just super intimidating at first. Remember that almost whatever you can do on a machine, you can do by hand! It just takes longer. 😊

This is why I always pull my trousers up, if my wallet doesn't fit snugly against my butt so I can feel it while I'm walking, I wear different trousers. That or it goes in an inside pocket.

Just don't use your back pocket. Use either your front pants pockets or your inner jacket pocket. Both are more secure.

@@myria2834 Only when away from home, keys in one pocket, phone in other, then handkerchief in another pocket because honestly they are underrated. Often I will just wear a top and jeans, so nowhere else but back pocket unless I want to risk losing my phone or keys. 😅

@@myria2834 Its just a mindfulness thing man. You dont need to live by these "strict" standards if you just arent a *Fu cking Idiot* with your awareness and personal space. Maybe all the people with 0% street smarts and an NPC level awareness should probably keep their shit in their front pocket.. But its just a mindfulness thing... Some have it. Some dont. More than half the people who get robbed could have avoided it if they took 2 seconds to look around them. Thats fact.

@@Deja117 For me, it's phone right pocket, keys and wallet left pocket. (Or more often than not, keys on lanyard around my neck for quick and easy access.)

My wallet so fat he couldn’t do anything. All those little coins protected me from being robbed.
