Perfect video to square up a HST. I had such trouble with a wall hanging quilt kit where my skills are not the best but are improving. I had 3 square sizes but was able to square them all to a smaller size. Thank you for posting this insightful video.

Hi Leah thanks for the response on the flying geese design, now about right years ago you do a tutorial on cutting and sewing a fitted sheet, can you please do another one especially Queen or king size, thank you , Lucky

That's a great suggestion! It's one of my oldest videos and honest, one of the most popular. I'll be looking for a new king sized sheet set so I can demo it for you!

Hello from Australia Leah, your videos are excellent and I enjoy them very much. Could you pl,ease write the name of the cotton thread you are using. Ears a bit old and I didn't catch the name. I am buying the Flower festival patterns each month but haven't started yet as my sewing space is being used for tools and stuff for the reno to my house. Thanks you have made learning to quilt so enjoyable my quilting friend.

I have been quilting for couple years but watching your video , as refreshed my memory=Where did you find that marking pencil. I have fons & Porter ceramic pencil but doesn't look like the one you are using
@LeahDay

It's actually the same pencil - they've just recently changed the color from red to blue.

Old video but.. I will ask anyway. When I make my HST I want to sew multiples together to create a Chevron pattern design. Problem is, when I sew my 1/4 " allowance. The stripes are off by that 1/4". Question is how the heck do you avoid this from happening?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 2 жыл бұрын
If your diagonal is running corner to corner, you have pieced your HSTs correctly. When you piece them together, the 1/4 inch seam allowance will make the top and bottom edges of the row appear funny. Keep piecing. It will sort out the more pieces you put together.

Leah I cannot get these threads out here, what are the closest you think I can use, I mostly see polyester and cotton falcon

Are you using a scant or regular 1/4 Inch? I generally use the scant for my piecing.
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 7 жыл бұрын
I don't teach or mention scant 1/4 inch because I find it confusing and so do my students. I use a 1/4 inch foot and prepare the fabric and use thin thread for piecing and my seams come out right every time.

Hi Leah. Can you recommend which size rotating mat is best for your first purchase? I'm not sure if I should purchase a smaller mat or if I should start off with a larger mat. Thanks Mary Ellen
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 7 жыл бұрын
Bigger is definitely better when it comes to rotary mats Mary. The minimum size I'd recommend is 18 x 24. If you have a bigger table where you can leave the mat stretched out flat, then go with the full size of the table. Rhino makes self healing mats in huge sizes (I have one that was 6 x 8 feet to cover a very big table) and I believe I bought that one on Ebay.
