TY for the very informative video. I wish though, that you had started from when you attached the darning foot. I just got a set for free motion quilting and I have to learn a lot in order to start using them. TY.

That is beautiful but not many quilters can do anything like that.

With practice, you can do anything! It really just depends on how much you want to practice and quilting little squares is a low cost, low risk way to build skill. Here's one of my earliest videos from 2009 if you don't believe me - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6jZmpKQl612es0

Very pretty! I was looking for an easy St. Brigid's Cross to mark February 1, aka Imbolc, which is also commonly known as St. Brigid's Day, as well as the feast day of St. Brigid. This looks looks perfect - thank you for sharing!😊

So if there is no thread cutter, what if you are in the middle of your large quilt and have to cut the thread? Pull the quilt all the way to the edge before you can cut?
@LeahDay8 күн бұрын
No, you'll follow the typical rules for breaking thread in the middle of a quilt. Push your quilt away (or if you're on a frame, roll it away from the ending point). Roll back and needle down, needle up at the end point. Pull up a loop that is your bobbin thread and cut the thread tails with scissors.
@barbaracosimano12889 күн бұрын
I've noticed when I use the stencil like this the thread turns black from the printer ink most of the time I have been lucky and it comes out but not always what do you use to get the color out of your thread if it changes the color?
@LeahDay8 күн бұрын
I noticed this myself with my flower quilt. After a wash or two, the darker effect on my thread washed out. It may take a few washes though!

My first quilt was done with incorporating flower sheets into the designs as it was during Covid and the challenge was that u could not go out to purchase anything but u had to use what u had at home along with old jeans! All I had was bed sheets and used my fancy embroidery stitches in contrasting threads to add texture and interest !
@LeahDay11 күн бұрын
That sounds gorgeous and interesting - win win!
@sherrybrown332014 күн бұрын
Excellent lesson. You should add how to end when you stop to secure the stitches like at the start because lots of people would just backstitch and that is not enough to keep it from coming undone I have been told. Very clear instructions otherwise❤
@LeahDay11 күн бұрын
That's a great suggestion! And just in case someone is looking for a video on it - you can find my method for tying off and burying thread tails (and the needles I use for this) here - leahday.com/products/cheater-needles

I have two utility quilts made by grandmother and great grandmother. Both are made😂 from leftover scraps from clothes and the batting is World War 2 army blankets. They were hand tied by the neighbors and my brother and I sat underneath the frame pushing the needles back up. Our reward was have some treats from the luncheon my grandmother prepared. Some of the fabrics are now threadbare, but they are still special to me. Let's just love our craft and give grace to all who do it as well.

I have the Continuum 1 (One) frame and am looking for an Idler Rail kit (which is now out of production). If anyone knows where I can find one, let me know!
@LeahDay11 күн бұрын
I'd check Ebay and Craig's List. It's really the only option for something like this, though you might end up having to buy a whole new frame in order to just get the Idler Rail and bracket off of it!

Can you explain why a walking foot would still be used?
@LeahDay16 күн бұрын
A lot of quilters like walking foot style quilting. It has more control over the quilting design and with the amount of harp space the Little Rebel has, it's certainly a foot quilters will want. It's also great for piecing thick fabrics and upholstery and bag sewing too.

Take your time. Watch more videos and pay attention to the quilting frames more than the machines. Machines can be sold, traded, etc, so make sure the frame is big enough to help you quilt with the least amount of fuss!
