I can understand why your 12 didn’t want to work. Vinegar is the wrong product for the job. With the smaller flywheel on the 12 treadle base you’ll be treadling a lot more than if you had used a base with a larger flywheel. 8” v 12”, or larger. 😢
@LeahDayКүн бұрын
I certainly agree. I did replace the treadle base and found it easier to run with a larger flywheel. I ended up donating the fiddlebase cabinet and treadle irons and the Singer 27 to Hart Square.
@4evasoul257Күн бұрын
Treadle cabinets that the Singer 15 clones will fit in are widely available. Me personally, I never would have cut a 12 treadle, since they're uncommon and very hard to come by, especially without a machine. There are many people in the VSM community that would love to get their hands on an original 12 cabinet. There's also many that would have loved to restore the 12 head, me being one of them. Apple cider vinegar doesn't work as well as a rust remover like Evaporust. I'm a collector with over 250 machines, including several 12s, hand crank and treadle. I also have over 20 Singer 15 clones.

Well, it's a bit late as that cabinet was cut in the video, used for a few years, then gifted to Hart Square to continue it's life on display in a 100+ year old log cabin.

Is it necessary to get an insert to fit the sewing machine to this table? (I forgot to notice or ask questions when I saw the table!) I saw this table recently at a quilt and sewing festival. The quality seemed really good, much better than many of the other tables and furniture on display. I'm hoping to invest in it at some future date.
@LeahDay2 күн бұрын
It really depends on the sewing machine. I have used both the Eversewn Celine and Little Rebel and Bernina 1230(vintage) and found they fit great without an insert!

QCT6 Pro can be switched down to the simpler QCT 6 edge-to-edge by tapping the button in the lower right corner "Try other Product Tiers" and then click "Start" under QCT 6. Great video. You are a wonderful teacher! Has anyone tried to send a fused fabric sheet into a cameo silhouette and let the machine cut out the shapes? I have already ruined a laser printer (My bad- I didn't read the directions fully!) I have a cameo and thought that this may work. Thanks!
@LeahDay5 күн бұрын
You would need the designs turned into SVG files to cut out with a cameo style machine, then to import the design into the Silhouette software and set your cutting settings. So yes, it would work if you're willing to play with the PDF that much! I'll check on my end the process of turning this into SVG files to add that as another option for this pattern...

I'm confused.....lol. That machine is automatic? all the user has to do is shift the quilt around on the frame? I'm new to fancy machines, most of the automatic quilting machines that I've seen are $15k- $20k and they are big frames. In Canada I see this Little Rebel is on sale for $5824 and the frame is a manageable size for people who don't have a big room to dedicate to a full size set up.
@LeahDay5 күн бұрын
Yes, you can add automation (QCT 6) to the Little Rebel on most Grace Company Quilting Frames. But as shown in this video, the machine doesn't move on its own unless you add QCT 6 - you push the handlebars and move the machine to make the designs. And yes, the small size makes this accessible for most quilters!
@crittersintheyard39935 күн бұрын
@@LeahDay Thank you. I spent the morning searching for information on this set up. I love it. Now the question is to figure out all the pieces needed and what the final cost would be and see if I could swing it. I love the idea of having a smaller set up but automated!

I searched my new machine (qnique 16x) to try to find the side channel lock that you mention. After googling, this appears to be a separate accessory that does not come with the machine, correct?
@LeahDay7 күн бұрын
Channel locks come with most quilting frames, not the machine because this accessory specifically fits the quilting frame. Only Cutie Breeze and Cutie Frames don’t come with channel locks, but you can find this sold separately on my website LeahDay.com/

What is the best way to get the paper to come off the quilt easier?
@LeahDay12 күн бұрын
Aim to quilt with smaller stitches and that will help perforate the paper better. When free motion quilting, this is not a setting on your machine, but done by moving your hands slower while you run the machine either the same speed or a little faster. Make sure to follow the instructions in the PDF for massaging your quilt to break up the paper. And the tiny bits will come off in the wash!

You are going to love using it on your frame! Give yourself permission to make ugly stitches, but at the same time, always TRY to be gaining more control and understanding of how to form designs with your machine. Basically - yes, it's okay to quilt wonky, wobbly feathers, but pretty pointless to scribble around aimlessly. I hope that makes sense!

Can you give me more info on the brackets & l brackets you use with your leader cloths to prepare the quilt for hanging?
@LeahDay14 күн бұрын
This probably needs a new video because the things I'm using has changed a bit. I now use these magnetic white board strips attached to the wall - amzn.to/3Aql8uL And then I use Magnum Magnets - leahday.com/products/sewtites-magnum To attach the leader cloth or backing to the magnet strips. They are strong enough to hold everything up while I pin the batting and quilt top in place. Unfortunately there is no shortcut for pinning the backing to leader, batting to backing, and quilt top to the 3 layers. So far I have not found any sort of clamping or magnet solution to that step. I'll update the video description with this info as well!

I tried your technique with the quilt clips on the top front bar, but found it was really limiting my throat space. My ruler base kept hitting the clips. How do you manage this?
@LeahDay18 күн бұрын
You can most likely extend the front rail of your frame out a bit to accommodate for the clips. Check your frame instruction manual and look for the set screws that lock the front rail of your frame in place. Loosen the screws and pull the front rail outward a bit, then tighten the screws back up again.

Thanks for this great video! I was just wondering do you do anything to the foot pressure? Would it help to have a lighter pressure? Thanks :)
@LeahDay18 күн бұрын
I don't usually adjust foot pressure for free motion quilting, especially on this machine. When using this machine and this foot, you would adjust the foot height directly on the foot instead of adjusting the presser foot pressure.

I'm new to sewing and I'm still trying to figure a lot of things out so this may be a dumb question but doesn't little bitty pieces of paper stay stuck under the threading after you tear the stencil away? Also, what sewing foot are you using?😊 I'd really love to try this
@LeahDay18 күн бұрын
If you follow the instructions in the stencil PDF, the bits of paper sticking are very minimal, and they will wash out with a pass through the washer. If you're quilting on your Little Rebel in a sewing table, you'll want an open toe foot that faces the right way found here - leahday.com/products/little-rebel-accessories?variant=44778287464610 (These will be back in stock soon) And if you are quilting on a frame, you'll want the open toe foot in this hopping foot set - leahday.com/products/grace-company-feet

Would you say the hd1000 is a good option for beginner quilting? I've never quilted before but would love to explore. I make simple things like totes, kindle sleeves, some simple Halloween costumes. It looks like it has the blanket stitch? Also, I see there is no pressure foot pressure adjustment? Would you say that's a big con? Any cons to this machine? Do you feel limited? ❤ Thank you!
@LeahDay12 күн бұрын
This was quite a few years ago, but luckily the HD1000 is still being made and yes, I still think it's a great machine. I'm not sure about the blanket stitch since I no longer have one. It was low shank which means a lot of feet are made compatible with it and it had a good amount of space to play. For general sewing and quilting your first quilts, it's a good little machine!

I believe that cabinet was from Michaels a long time ago. They have unfortunately been discontinued. We have quite a lot of sewing room furniture available here - leahday.com/collections/sewing-tables I now store almost EVERYTHING for my frames, multiple sewing machines, and thread in one Dingo cabinet. IKEA is also a great place to go, but unfortunately most of the drawers do not open fully. It drives me nuts to lose the last 7 inches of a drawer!
