Considering that action screw torque is measured in "inch pounds" I've found that pneumatic hose barbs (brass) are more than adequate for pillars. EASILY cut, drilled out / turned down (if need be) by merely chucking it up in a cordless drill and holding a bastard cut file against it at an approximate 20° angle, then using "quick set" JB WELD as the adhesive. MINWAX furniture polish with a light coat of WD40 is an excellent release agent. PLAYDOUGH is great for filling & protecting areas that aren't intended to be filled or used to create dams. STEEL STICK is an excellent medium for bedding the chamber portion of a barrel (my method is to double layer tape the underside of the barrel at the chamber area., masking tape 1st then aluminum tape on top of that and a coat of WD40 for release agent. After set time remove tapes and "skim" coat with JB WELD (not quick set) to bed chamber to stock. You'll find this to be a more economical way of achieving the same thing. If you've got multiple pew-pews that you want to do this too you'll love the low cost.

I have really enjoyed watching the quality, pro pillar work in this instructional video. Everyone who is considering doing a bedding job on their rifle should go into the task watching work like this right here. This type for work isn't well suited for the guy who gets frustrated easily when things arent going well or have minimal exposure to precision shop work. I have seen people wreck the accuracy that they once had with their stock rifle, due to not completing quality work and guys who didn't fully understand bedding concepts. I can be a nightmare if you don't take the time to set up correctly and do it methodical and precise work. God bless you sir!

I use plain old Play-Doh for dams and preventing locks, very cheap and in bright colors. If I need regular epoxy to wick into an area or if I'm working with thick compounds like Acraglas and want to make sure it flows a little bit I use a heat gun here and there. Johnson's Paste Wax in the metal tin makes a great release agent, just put it on with a flux brush or something similar.

Two Questions: (1) With the pillar holes larger than the pillars allowing slight rotation of the action, how do you make sure the action is left-right level when you bed? (2) between 21:25 and 23:00, what happened to the trigger assembly?
@artificer8452 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinkin' too... like why not use the trigger housing as a 'clamp' to squeeze it together after applying it to around the pillars.

Hi Ray I noticed you did not do anything to the wood finish other than drill out the holes. It helps to use a dremel on the wood, because or the finish and to allow the bedding compound to adhere to the wood. Thanks!

Ray,.... Try PR88 you put it on like hand cleaner,....... before you start,...... it dries and you do the job and when you wash your hands with water everything comes right off. And you can wipe the inner stock and epoxy down with linseed oil to seal it from moisture and humidity and it makes everything the same color.

I pretty sure the "field" gauge is the on that you DON'T want your bolt to close on . Bolt close on the "go gauge" = good. Bolt close on "no go" = may be bad Bolt close on a "field gauge" headspace is too much.

At 23:02 I'm curious why you don't use a plastic syringe like many two part epoxy's come in at the store to get down deep and 'fill er up'. Or make your own epoxy delivery tips for the disposable plastic syringes on the market? Just seems it be easier than gooping it in and all over. Just a question not a criticism...just curious.
