@@harmonhomestead7434 by the way, I incubated one of my eggs right after it was laid (like within 8 hours lol) and now that it’s day 18 I’m afraid the air cell is a bit too small. Should I put it in lockdown or keep it with some other eggs with the regular humidity? (This one is very lively and always jumps when I candle it lol)

Do you ever lay anything down in the bottom like paper towel or something to male it easier to clean up after?

No we have always hatched on the incubator mat. We use a scrub brush when cleaning to help.

You say don’t turn or touch the eggs, but what happens when the first chick hatches and starts bouncing those eggs all over the place?

They will hatch… it’s nerve wrecking at first to watch but the first chick that hatches will roll and stomp all over the others, but they are usually fine.

I had three that were opaque and not viable. But the other 9 appeared completely dark. I couldnt see an air cell or any movement. Can you tell me what that is an indication of? We are on day 19 of 21 and just put the 9 eggs back in and did the lockdown to see what happens. Not sure we will be getting chicks though. They dont look the same as yours

If you are on day 19, you may not see an air cell because the chicks may have absorbed it already by internally pipping. I only candle up until day 18, then set the eggs for hatching. Are you hatching dark eggs like Marans?

@@harmonhomestead7434 yes these are tan egg shells and olive egg shells. Not sure what variety they were...they were given to us, but I know she had olive eggers, marans, and plymouth rocks for sure. I just watched a video on the float test and to look for movement. Think I should try that?

@@rbljackson I would leave the eggs in the incubator and see what happens. Did you see fertility at all candling the last several weeks? If you did, I’d let it ride and see what hatches.

@@harmonhomestead7434 I did remove 3 eggs that lit up like light bulbs. There were no signs of fertility in those. But these other 9 I haven't been able to tell.

@@rbljackson see if you have anything by day 21, glad you through the clear eggs out. Otherwise you might have had an infertile group. Not sure. So many factors take place. Look at some of our candling videos, they may help as well if you incubate again. Fingers crossed for your hatch!
