Thank you so much - I learned more about transfer tape and stencils than any other video! Excited to do my project tomorrow - fear gone 💪

I’m so glad I found this video!! I have had my Portrait 3 for about 6 weeks and there isn’t a lot of videos for the machine I have. However, I bought mostly cricut matte and the foil adhesive or oracle 651. And I literally feel so dumb for not realizing the matte was thicker. I haven’t had a lot of good cuts and I even considered returning my machine, but I’ve decided to just watch/read as much as I can about what cut settings are best and when to use what type of vinyl. So thank you for sharing!! 💕🥰🌸🦋

Yes! I tried a new transfer tape when I was trying to put a stencil on a cup. Was way to sticky. Really didn’t work well at all. Lower tack would have definitely helped.
@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
Kai Stockman yeah it takes a little while to find the right transfer tape. The ones advertised as “low tack” are usually not great, they need to be stickier. I find that if you buy a roll that is too sticky, stick it to something else (I use my arm) then use it. Helps a lot!

Thanks for posting this. We've had some problems with curved surfaces, but I think this will help ALOT. At about the 2:13 point, you are using a tool that is not a typical weeder. It looks to have more of a flat surface. What is that, and what do you use it for? Thank you!!
@mjcreativeco.26504 жыл бұрын
Michael O hi there! It was an xacto blade! I use it to make weeding a little easier (so I’m not pulling up all of it and some getting stuck in the little crevices that calligraphy has). This especially helps with thin lines or small calligraphy so I’m focused on one spot at a time :)
@barbaracarlson13315 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have the procreate and pencil but don’t know how to get to my cricut and computer. I don’t use Design Space due to unreliable Internet. I do have a new cricut which takes cartridges but am not sure if you can use the design there or not. I like what you have shown.

What are your cut settings for that thin font?
@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle - it depends on how sharp my blade is, I don’t change the settings for thinner fonts, I just do it on whatever is currently cutting my vinyl (the vinyl setting most of the time)
@michellepetraitis31565 жыл бұрын
I just rewatched your video again. After watching it the first time a month ago, you gave me the confidence to try vinyl on a curved surface. Thank you so much. Your tips are all spot on. I have done 100 ornaments....you are the best!

Hi there! It’s a 4” bauble, I got this one from Hobby Lobby - they don’t have them on their website, you’d have to go check in store if you have one near you (and they always sell out of the frosted glass ones as it gets closer to Christmas)

@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
hersheyqueen Lisa hi there! I have two other videos on my profile, how to go straight from procreate (where I do the calligraphy) into design space, but I also have one about vectorizing lettering (or drawings) from procreate on Illustrator. I don’t go into how to save exactly for the cricut, but it’s basically the same, you just have to save as an .SVG file at the end

Which cricut do you suggest as the best?
@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you’re using it for! I have an Explore Air 2, and it does everything I need it to. The Maker is great if you’re cutting a lot of fabric or super thick materials, but I use it mostly for paper and vinyl so the cheaper ones are perfect!

Love the design but can you tell me what your settings are, as I’ve tried every setting including now washi taper more pressure using my Cricut Maker and the 651 glossy vinyl snd my cuts are not clear. You pulled it away so easily snd my thin cuts like yours are lifted snd gets damaged every single time. Thank you.
@mjcreativeco.26504 жыл бұрын
Hi Sheryl! I typically use my regular vinyl setting (Vinyl on the Cricut), unless I’m noticing that it’s cutting through the paper behind it, then I use one setting less than that. If you’re noticing that it’s not completely cutting through your vinyl, try “Vinyl +,” or keep increasing it until it cuts through but doesn’t cut through the backing and you can easily pull up the negative space. Make sure that your blade is sharp (you do have to replace them every once in a while - i replace mine twice a year usually, but I also use the Cricut mostly only for vinyl - if you’re doing a lot of cardstock/heavier materials, you’ll need to replace it more often) and your mat doesn’t have too much debris on it. If you’re getting a lot of ripples in the vinyl, it may be because your blade isn’t sharp enough!
@DollsandEverythingElse4 жыл бұрын
@@mjcreativeco.2650 thanks for responding. I’m going to change my blade but I have the Maker and you can junky change the setting to more pressure and there are tons of vinyl settings. I selected permanent or premium and more pressure and it still didn’t work so someone said to try washi tape and more pressure snd this worked better but the negative still does not lift away easily. I’ll change my blade and try again. Thank you.

Do you cut your vinyl on the regular setting? I have a hard time with weeding when i do thin lettering... yours looked so easy!
@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
Danielle Peters yes I do! Thin lettering is hard, I do the monoline lettering instead of variable lettering because variable gets too skinny in places

@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
Toscha Phillips most people don’t know all of that! It took me a long time to figure out how thin and small I could make things where the cricut won’t have an issue cutting it. It’s all about trial and error!

what size do you make your image for a round ball?
@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
Kiki S it depends on the size of the ball, but I made this one the same size as the width of the ball (4”)

I was curious is it better to use skinny fonts? I made a few Christmas balls and the curve is so hard. I’m still learning. But this was helpful Thank you.
@mjcreativeco.26505 жыл бұрын
G Broom I think it is - you have to find a happy medium, because you can’t cut anything TOO skinny, but it helps because the thinner it is e more flexible it is
