Even before the pandemic, I and my bf have always wanted a small wedding (50 guests) that we ourselves would pay for and the wedding is our way. We would rather spend the money on our travels rather than wasting it all on just one day of partying where people would still find things to complain about. Also I don't even want to buy the dress if I can't even wear it on any other day. I would rather rent a designer dress for the day. But unfortunately my parents are not up for a small wedding, they are okay with us waiting it out to get married post vaccination but after our own small wedding, they want the "real wedding" on their own terms in their own way. (I am 24, he is 28 and we are in a relationship since 2 years.)

This dropping the trousseau thing is so true. I bought hell lot of sarees, salvaar kameez, bags, shoes etc and I haven’t used more than 10% of it. It’s been 2 years and everything seems outdated or too gaudy to be worn now. I wish I had saved all the money and invested in something better.

Thanks Sherry for sharing this. I had a small wedding myself in my in-laws' living room. Literally! It was small yet beautiful. The good thing is you get to enjoy your special moment and can experience it all with only a handful of your loved ones as opposed to a crowd of 400 people who you hardly know. I remember every face and smile at my wedding. I don't understand the concept of big fat weddings anyway. I feel it's sch a waste of money (especially given today's economic situation) and puts so much burden on you and your family. Many do it to just show off their wealth or are under the pressure of friends/family would think. Your wedding should be 'your' day rather than it becoming about others. Oh my god, personally, I absolutely hate the trend of "THE BIG FAT INDAN WEDDING" mainly because it has become so damn expensive. I wouldn't like to spend hard earned money/ take a loan for a day and then repay it my entire life. Whenever I get married, I want it to be the way you described it to be. Small yet personalized. I liked how you mentioned that it should be the couple who should pay for the wedding...
