Thanks Matt! As you guide through the steps I'm able to pause the video and practice on GAIA. Super Helpful! I didn't know about the World Imagery layer and I subscribed to Trails Off Road.

Thank you for always providing great guides for route planning, and the resources to do so! I was also a little confused halfway through the video and thought your computer was dying until I realized it was puppy snoring lol. Thanks Matt!

Who’s that snoring in the background?! 😂 Great video, Matt. These always help with my trip planning.

Great tips! That area of Utah has become one of my favorite places. Especially from Torrey through the Grand Staircase to Bryce Canyon and all the way down to Kanab. Such diverse terrain in the area. Have fun!

I ran through that first route area this past late April and there was snow up high, but completely passable.

Thank you for taking the time & for summarizing your experiences, your perspective, and advice that have come up throughout your adventures.. and packaging them all up in a video that allows us to be beneficiaries of it all. Gaia definitely seems like the easiest. I like the waypoint function, the identified campsites & notable scenic spots on their layers! Merry Christmas to your family!

Great timing with this video Matt! I was also just starting to plan out a southern Utah trip for the spring and will also be starting near Monticello. (actually Beef Basin Rd off the 211) When I plan my trips I use GAIA to plan the route, Trails Offroad for trail information, and Google satellite view to scope for camp sites. Good info here, thanks! Oh, and that first trail you marked while making the route is Indian Creek, which I have been on before during fall color season and it was amazing. Do recommend.

Thank you for this. I have Gaia and Onyx. Gaia confuses me, not gonna lie about it. But i like Gaia more due to the features it has. Cheers and merry Christmas and happy new year to yall.

Awesome thank you for sharing. I usually just pick an area and go but I end up missing some interesting places.

An automatic "like" right there just for the snoring pupper . Curious why you're not using the shaded relief layer for this route. To me that's absolutely indispensable for trip planning! I use the same icons for campsites, but color them gray for potential, blue for "meh-but-serviceable," green for good, and red for exceptional. I use the star for where I've stayed with similar color coding.

I find the Overland Layer doesn't need the shaded relief added to it. I like your icon management!!

@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Thanks--it' a great system for me and if I look back at someplace I visited 2 years ago and want to head back to it's easy to find the better sites at a fast glance. As for shaded relief, I agree the new Gaia Overland layer is much better than the old Gaia Topo layer was in that regard, but a smidge of shaded relief (no more than about 20%) makes all the difference to these old eyes . That's the beauty of their layering--reordering and changing transparency, is magnificent.

I love Gaia. It's my primary mapping tool. The only small gripe I have is when zooming in on the Overland layer, the labels of the roads, POIs, etc don't get bigger and I find them hard to read. I didn't know about Trails Offroad, I may have to add that one to the planning aresenal.

Thank you for the video but I have a different question. Supplying meals for an overland group? Group meals or each to bring and cook their own?

Hi Matt, great video, at the right time of the year. What is up with the new sign in for Gaia and Outside, now I can’t get the prior information even after I hit the “I already purchased” button. Ugh.

I haven't experienced that except the first time after a recent major update I had to sign back in again.
