I am growing Li/Lang jujube grown in May 2020 from seeds. Yes, it is blooming right now. I live in zone 13 and it has grown about 10 feet tall. The only problem is it is very thorny and it's very hard to even pass by it. It literally grabs your shirt.😂

Always love your videos. Thumbs all the way up. I got a Li Jujube, when I got it, it was just a stick. now after 4--5 years it is a beautiful tree in front of the house. Delicious, green, green/brown, and totally brown.

It's not last year's growth vs this year's growth actually. Jujube grows 2 types of branches every season - annual and perennial. The flowers will grow on the annual ones, but those will always fall off in the winter. The perennial ones are what makes the tree bigger every year, but they don't hold any flowers. Sometimes it can happen that the tree only produces annual branches (happened to me this year) and since all of them end up falling off in winter, the tree actually doesn't get any bigger that year. It seems that pruning last year's woody growth is a way to induce perennial branches to start growing.

I think "Li" is the most popular, and best for most backyard growers. Any fruit tree can be kept at your preferred height through pruning!

hello, how do we prevent the roots from getting to invasive. I read that if you put it into a plastic pot and cut out the bottom and plant it that way, the roots will grow down and prevent them from spreading out and damaging the property...do you know if this is true? We really want to plant one in ground but are worried about the invasiveness of it

Hi! I have seen these roots traveling way outside their drip line, so containing them makes sense. More than a pot which mioght be too small, consider a plastic tree-root guard that can give you a wider area but still accomplish the same thing

I did that with a vig tree with great success. Its a small and compact tree with lots of vigs. All the energy goes to the fruits.

We just plated two jujubes around 3 feet tall here at zone 7b. Once planted, there was no transplant shock at all.

I have Lang and Li jujubes tree in 4 feet distance. They have lots of flowers but no fruits. I check the internet and use water sprayer to spray water to the flowers, it didn't work either. What did I miss.

With these plants, don't water the flowers, but do water the base of the plant. Jujubes are pretty reliable producers. It's possible you're not getting enough pollinator activity (bees, bugs, etc) so if that's the case, consider planting other plants that will attract them.

I love jujubes. I planted Li and Lang 18 months ago and got fruit on both my first year and they were basically fruiting at the same time. I prefer Li over Lang a tad bit sweeter to me. I really want to try honey jar, sugar cane and some others as well

Rabbits nibbled on one of our trees this year. Otherwise they've been pretty carefree. Honey jar and sugarcane varieties for now. Both trees are flowering, hopefully they'll set fruit this year. I'll probably get a couple more trees eventually.

You can grow it in Vancouver and in a pot. Plant it in the sunniest place you can, choose the largest pot you can manage (and can move around if you need to),and don't let it get too water logged. But it can be done!

Hello Im from Costa Rica, bought these seeds because the name in Spanish of this fruit derives my surname (Azofeifa). I don't know if it works here, I've never seen it and I only found it once in an Asian supermarket. My question I have seen videos where they break the nut and place it on wet paper. Break two seeds and they have nothing, and they look different than the ones in videos. They are elongated with a fine point at both ends. Thanks.

I planted four jujube plants (Li, Lang, Sugar Cane, Honey Jar) six months ago in my backyard and they are not happy. The forty+ plants I put in the ground look so green and very happy except jujubes, yellow and small leaves. I bought bare-root plants and put the same admements+fertilizer+water for all of them in my garden, but the jujubes look like nutrition deficiencies. I want to fertilize my jujubes but I'm not sure what is a good one for them. Thank you in advance for your response. Happy early Father's Day!

I bought 7ft to 8ft Li, Lang and Sugar Cane. No clue what I'm doing but they're planted with extra organic matter in the hole and compost. They're leafless now but being taller then me I'm looking forward to it establishing.

I tried the cloth and they still took a beating. We all have to prepare as the gov wants us dependent on them for slavery kinda. Weather manipulation as well as a solar minimum it is going to get bad.

Jujube has thorns, but it's a big thorn spaced out every few inches, unlike thorns on a blackberry or roses. Totally manageable if you're even a little careful

Do you have any fertilizing suggestions for the jujube trees? all the videos show how to stick it in the ground but no advice on fertilizing. Also where is the best place online to buy them, It appears everyone is out for this year, have to preorder for spring of 2021? I live here in Louisiana so if they like hot and humid then they should be right at home.

Hi Wayne, my trees are usually spaced around 2.5-3 feet from trunk to trunk. Same is true with these jujubes!

Hi Nigar, I'm not exactly sure how long it would take from seed, but do know that plants from seed often take 5-7 years before growing big enough to fruit reliably. The Jujube does give a crop once a year

Hi Teresa, I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. It's meaningful to have a tree that he planted, and for you to enjoy the fruit from. What kind of tree is it? Jujube like in this video? The type of fruit will determine how you pick it. Soft fruit like peaches and plums should be picked by hand, while oranges and avocados can be pulled with a fruit picker on a pole. Jujubes, I imagine, would do fine being picked with a picker.

Id like to ask a couple of questions, I recently purchased but have yet to receive the li and the Lang jujube, I am in Northish Central Fl, Im hoping they do well. Do both trees produce the suckers that you mention and have you had any luck with making any more trees from these suckers? Im hoping that this will be a very dependable producer for my 9A grow zone. Im in high and dry sand, nothing but pine trees and blackjack oak with a water table of approx 75 feet. So far Ive removed hundreds of trees from my property and have re-planted many other species that Im hoping will eventually adapt with my care. I have 2 tigertooth jujubes that Ive recently planted and if you would care to have a sucker that Im make sure is well rooted let me know. Thanks

They like heat and good drainage, so you're probably in good shape with those. I have always pulled the suckers, and as I understand it, that's a rootstock the main wood has been grafted onto. The fruit from suckers and from seed is considered subpar so I haven't tried to do anything with it.

You should be ok with temps (they're hardy down to 5-15 degrees), but prefer well draining soil and a slightly alkaline soil. If you've got acidic soil and/or heavy soil, you'll probably want to plant in a raised mound.

Hey there, I ordered some jujube seeds from the internet, because I knew the fruits from my time in china and I loved them. Now I have a very stupid question, but I didn´t find the answer online. I got the stones from jujube and everyone have two seeds in it. one bigger one smaller. on internet I found different descriptions how to plant the jujube. some are writing "scratch the seeds", put in hot water and plant after 24 hours. other are writing "burnish or cut the stones, put in hot water and plant" . So now I am confused if I need to plant the stones or crack them up and plant only the seeds. Could you please help me? :-D Thanks and cheers, Andi

I haven't planted jujube from seed, and I don't have any jujubes to crack open to check! If I had to guess, It sounds like you are just helping the seeds two open and sprout more easily. My guess, is that you were doing it with what you got, and not opening them up. I imagine this is the way would happen in nature without needing them to be broken open into smaller pieces. So you are probably just breaking the outside shell up a little bit to encourage growth

I today opened some stones, wrapped the seeds in a piece of kitchen paper watered with warm water. put all together in a bowl on the floor where it should provit from the floor heating. Lets see if it works. if not I will also try your advice and try again. I was happy to see that all your girls enjoy the fruit very much and I hope the same for my girls :) Thanks and Cheers, Andi

@@TheBusyGardener i'm thinking its shadeing it out at such a small size, you can only imagine the roots of the bigger plant are taking all the soil as well, you can prune the top to be half each, but you can't prune the roots.

They'll do well in a well-draining soil that doesn't get too waterlogged. Fertilize like any other tree and they should do great. Can't wait to hear how your trees do!

Purchased a grafted plant! Generally speaking, any fruit tree planted from seed won't be 100% true to the parent.

You can cut it knee high right now. It's possible the tree got stressed when it got planted. You may also be overwatering. I usually water my trees once or twice a week, and have a thick mulch layer on the soil to protect their roots.

Lang is pronounced with an “a” not an “o” just like the way it’s spelled. It’s not a “long” jujube, it’s Lang like in the word hang or dang or wang.
