Growing your own pineapple plant is super easy.
Grab a fresh pineapple - pick one that has healthy looking leaves, a sure sign that roots will be present.
Using a clean knife, remove the pineapple top allowing at least 2cm of room to expose the pineapple core. This helps support the new plant in the soil.
Remove the remaining fruit.
Start removing the pineapple leaves from the base, and continue up until you expose a decent amount of roots. Also allowing enough clearance for the base to be planted.
I like to rest my pineapple top in a glass of water for a couple of days. This is step optional. It allows the plant to settle and take up some water from it's newly exposed roots.
Have your pot ready, filled with damp soil or potting mix.
Here I have used a 1:1 blend of coco coir and standard potting mix.
Make space for your pineapple top to sit in the soil. Then compact the soil around the base, ensuring the roots are covered and your plant is supported.
Water your pineapple from the top, allowing the water to run through the leaves to the soil. Continue watering every few days or as the soil becomes dry.
Be careful not to knock your new plant while the roots take hold.
Pineapple plants make great indoor plants. But also, depending on where you live, can be planted outside, where they will become much bigger.
Peace - Stevie.
