Dave Wilson Nursery has a great KZbin series for backyard fruit growers, as a past commercial stonefruit grower the info is as good as it gets, instructions on rootstock, pruning, spacing, and more. I winter in AZ now from the furthest north fruit growing town in Wash. State, I've had to modify some things here, the biggest one before planting is to dig the hole me ch larger, and then fill with water, add pool acid, this I do several times, as our PH is 8+ and the fruiting trees don't do well as far as spreading their roots out, this lowers the PH where the trees are much happier, and they spread their roots. Figured it out from taking leaf samples, found the trees were starving, due to PH, Cation Exchange issues. Learned that from a old time retired peach grower in BC Canada who's farm was also high PH.

Hi Jo! Totally agree, I've learned a lot from Dave Wilson Nursery's channel. pH & cation are definitely a big deal, I'm glad you were able to get that figured out! It's so valuable to talk with local and experienced growers. I hope you have a great harvest this year!

@@makinggardenmagic yes just planted 3 of the low chill hour Royal Cherries 🍒, so far they are thriving, even the one our cat used as a scratching post, thats before I wrapped it.

@@johac7637 ah yes, that's a good reminder - I get loads of earwigs in my fruit, so I was going to try wrapping my tree trunks with something sticky they can't walk across this year

@@makinggardenmagic tanglefoot works, but irrigation, dust, mowing makes it a repeat pain. Take a metal coat hanger, hang a newspaper that you've crumpled a bit, and they like to hide in it, shake it over a bucket with cheapest veggie oil on the bottom, we did that testing for when to spray, but also treated the newspaper with Bifefrin?? and they go in to hide and get poisoned. It also got the ants,. It's reasonably priced, not to toxic, look up Wisdom, Termites. Some people brush it on the trunks, but water takes it away.
