You really DO have sandy soil down there! Planting your potatoes up in mounds like that is an excellent idea for the coming colder, wetter weather that's common to the grand solar minimum. I wish you a bountiful crop with very few weeds ☺

Wow . Harvesting potatoes by May . That just blows my mind . I used to plant mine in early May and they would grow all summer . What a difference a hot climate makes .

Good morning to Deep South Homestead. Wacky weather is right! Your reasoning makes sense for how you planted the fingerlings. Your ground sure came up nice, even though it was wet. Bring on an abundant yield of potatoes! Bless your efforts this day. Thank you and take care.

Thanks Danny. Those are some HUGE fingerling potatoes! I'm hoping to plant my Red Pontiacs sometime between the 11th and 14th. They are calling for around a 50% chance of rain on those days so I'm praying that the Lord will grant me good planting weather. Much Love

Brrrr! You look like it's pretty cold there. It is here too in S.Calif. Pretty cold winds. Years ago, I had someone tell me their daddy planted potatoes on St. Patricks Day. I thought then, that seemed way too late. But this year, we're not warming up as usual. I think I'll be planting potatoes closer to St. Patty's Day! Looking forward to seeing how all the varieties grow for you too! Great job!

I’m a little south of Danny down in south Alabama, we are hilling our potatoes as high as we can to guard against rot from the rain and trying to get all the potatoes in the ground by the end of February, most of our crop that was planted after that started to get potato worms or the cores began to rot from the extreme heat on the larger potatoes

### How did you cure them potatoes and for how long? ## just cut them up and leave them in the box? I've bought seed potatoes (cut up) and I've planted whole. If I can yield more from a tater by cutting that would be nice. I've never cut them because I never wanted them to rot.
@DeepSouthHomestead
@DeepSouthHomestead 4 жыл бұрын
Just cut them up leaving at least 3 eyes on the piece you cut . Then let them dry for a few days in a warm spot. Then plant them.

You know what? I get really tired of people my age asking, " don't y'all ever sit still? ". " Idle hands, are those who performs in the devil workshop " Lord. how many times, did Mama, say that. And when people in their 60's and older, don't understand that.. Lord have mercy. My husband loves the saying, if a man is too lazy to work, he won't eat, unless he steals, or wait on others to feed him. Of course we get tired. Were flesh and blood beings too. However, I love to eat. And our food. taste better. and is better for you. When you amend the soil, your crop will be delicious.. I believe you, too regarding the weather I'm not a groundhog, but I'm reading the stars.. I just hope, I'm wrong.. I really do.
