Thank you for discussing the need for part shade. I never knew that until I just watched another guy in India talk about how gardenias will not thrive in full sun! So I am going to transplant mine from 10 hrs of sun to a dappled shade area.

Hi Dee, love your channel! Try de-leafing the damaged leaves (only) on your Japanese maple. It forces the tree to come up with fresh new leaves.

Red Dragon Japanese Maple. We had a late frost that crisped up the edges that year, but usually, it's a beautiful red/purple color.

I just recently discovered these and really want to get a couple. I want to plant them as foundation plants on the front side of my house, which faces west. I'm in NC in zone 7B. Right now, I will have some radiance abelia in front of them. I have a Frost Proof Gardenia as a specimen plant in a different section of the front yard (opposite side of the front yard / different bed). In your opinion would the diamond spire and the abelia be a good combination? I also have a forsythia in the bed where I would like to put the diamond spire gardenia. Thank you for your input.

Hi Mavis, I think that would look so beautiful. I have radiance Abelia also and both plants would look great especially because they will both be evergreen for you. I say go for it 😁

Do I have to wait til spring to plant in Zone 7 for frost free gardenia or do I have to keep it inside for this winter ?
@DeesYard Жыл бұрын
At this point, I personally would keep it in it's container and keep it outside and then bring it into a garage type setting if any temperatures are below 29 degrees, and then put it back out when it warms up. Then I would plant it in the Spring. Gardenia's are marginally hardy in zone 7 and it's best to get a full growing season in the ground prior to it's first winter.

What should I do the floors after they open they change the color like brown?
@DeesYard2 жыл бұрын
You can either pull them off or just leave them.. they will eventually fall off themselves.

thank you for this video. Im in zone 7a as well in Washington. I’m curious how does your gardenias planted int he ground outdoors do in the winter. I always here to put gardenias outside when its warm/hot but have to put it inside when it gets cold. Can you shed some light on that please?
@DeesYard3 жыл бұрын
I leave all of my Gardenias outdoors, in the ground during the winter. As long as the Gardenia you have is cold hardy to your zone 7, they are good to go to leave outdoors. 😊

I planted mine in the ground in April of this year and it flowered once in May and stopped. About a month ago it started getting yellow leaves at the bottom and now the yellowing leaves has started to creep up to the top level. It gets sun from 10-4pm (East west facing house) and during summer I water it every morning. Now I am getting worried whether it is due to overwatering or underwatering? Help! Also how do you propogate this new diamond spire gardenia? Its leave structure is so clumped together that it is impossible to trim down to only a few. I have tried the soil method only to have the entire cutting turn brown. Is water propopagating better? If the cutting takes off by October, should I over winter it indoors? I live in zone 8A.
