Thanks for the very good video. I have 45 Encore azaleas, so I am a big fan of most of their 33 varieties. Most bloom not only in spring and again in fall, but a smaller amount of blooms in early summer ! Monrovia is one other major grower of re-blooming azaleas, so your viewers can look for those, too. If a true soil test shows low phosphorous, then adding it into the soil around your azaleas (or most any flowering shrub) can increase the number of blooms! Encores do best with 6-8 hours of sun per day (Eastern exposure is best, but not necessary), better, if possible avoiding hot early afternoon sun (though I have Encore Twist and Ivory and Majesty and Amethyst growing great in a South-by-Southwest exposure...having watered them deeply twice-weekly for their first full year in the soil) because they were bred for full sun

Great video, this really helped me. I just have one azalea, I've had it for years. I flowered so beautiful this year. I have a question, when you prune your azaleas, how much do you prune off? Mine just got done flowering, the blooms are dead and want to know exactly how to prune it. ❤
@MarlenesHomeandGarden8 ай бұрын
Very lightly. About 2 to 3 inches. We don't want to shock it too much. But do what you feel most comfortable doing. Happy Gardening.. ❤️

@MarlenesHomeandGarden6 ай бұрын
Welcome. It's a bit late in the season. The best time to prune is right after they bloom. Especially if they are Encore Azaleas. Whenever you are ready, you can just take 1 to 3 inches off with sharp pruners or trimmers.. Happy Gardening. ❤️

I love azaleas. Lots of great information. How many do you have? I only have one. I will have to replace it. It’s been on for years. My former neighbor let me have hers when she moved. Thanks for sharing.

They last for up to 100 years but if you feel like it you can always replace. So many in my subdivision. Such beautiful flowers they are. ❤️

I have an azalea that came with the house. I think it gets too much sun (south facing full sun). I think I will try planting oriental lilies in front of it for some relief. I'm not an azalea expert, but eventually I'm going to plant some more along my pine tree line so this video is very helpful. I will try your Epsom salt idea. Thanks for the information, and yes, those pink ones with the extra color detail are gorgeous.🙂

Do you take a electric hedge trimmer to prune your azaleas? I have quite a few varieties of hydrangeas,Japanese maples, azaleas and three different dogwoods (2 flower spring to early summer and 1 flowers mid summer to fall) I strongly agree that they are stunning combinations. They are well established and not something I would have been capable of designing, I was just fortunate enough that the previous owners had great taste and design. I had to have a arborist come and educate me because I had no idea what type some of the plants where or how to properly care for them. Two of my other favorite trees are the Deodra pine tree which has pine cones that open and looks like wooden roses. The other is the Yew because of its coloring and winter interest. Thanks for sharing your garden!
@MarlenesHomeandGarden8 ай бұрын
Wow! Your garden sounds so beautiful. I bet you get lots of birds. Always so cheerful to hear them. If the Azaleas are large a hedge trimmer might be best but always trim lightly 1 to 2 inches. If small you can use a small hand pruner. This does not have to be done every year. Happy Gardening. ❤️ 🌸 🐦

@@MarlenesHomeandGarden I am deaf and depend on captions. I see the birds but I have never heard them or the frogs that my husband hears. I very much enjoy watching wildlife and looking at plants. I learn a lot through gardening books and videos that have good captions.

I didn't know Azaleas get that big. I thought I would need to plant rhododendrons to get that big. Yes, I know that Azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhododendrons are Azaleas so the ones marked Rhododendron seem to have more volume in my zone. I am in Ontario though so I guess that's why the two azaleas I planted don't grow out. I am in Zone 6B.
