A very nice video, thanks. My little tip is at the base of the bulb, put a little bit of course grit there, and it helps to prevent rot etc.

If they are planted 6-8" deep, this depth works better. It is not to deep for the bulb, but deep enough for the bulb not to tip over, when they are in full bloom.

I just soak my bulbs with warm water into a container for a day. I've heard that helps the bulb to germinate quickly.

I bought them actually by mistake but now I want to go to the store and get more colors. Here in Minnesota we have to pull them out of the ground because it gets very cold over the winter. I Just planted mine today. My bulbs are much smaller hoping to get them to grow quite large over the summer. I will grab some hay to mulch them. Got that last October should work just fine. Thanks!

I just planted about twenty bulbs. I’m in Montana USA. It gets down to -20F to -30F sometimes in winter. Will they need to be uprooted in the fall? And did I plant them too late to get a chance to see them blossom this season?

I planted mine at the end of Feb. The leaves are getting taller now about 15 inches tall. It was in my patio for 3months ,recently i have placed it where it can had more sun exposure . Just today i have notice that it has 1 long stem that seems going to hold flowers. I cant wait to see the flowers bloom soon😀

Potassium and phosphates if added will help. One of these promotes flowers, the other roots. It may be that you have a very nitrogen rich soil, which is for leaf growth? Hope that helps😀

I have a query: I planted gladioli in mum's garden last year. They came up beautifully. They were doing well again this year until 3 days ago - they were about a foot tall when they were cut down to within an inch of the ground by a lawn mower (my mum had paid for a gardner to mow the lawn and he pushed the mower over half the flower beds too...). Will they recover? If not this year, then next year? Or should I just dig the bulbs up and throw them away?
@fishmut
@fishmut 5 жыл бұрын
EASYTIGER10 ... the bulbs should survive if they weren’t sticking out of the ground much, might flower late or next year. If the bulbs not damaged don’t throw them away , be patient, cheers.

I had trouble getting mine to flower over a couple of years, they would grow but not flower at all . A fella I got talking to told me to lift them out of the ground for 24 hrs then replant them, it’s suppose to shock them into producing flowers , any other tips welcomed .
@tomjones2157

Some reasons for not flowering are: Not getting enough strong sun for at least several hours each day. Old soil that has become acidic over time or has been recently over manured which makes it acidic. They do not like soil under pH 6, but they prefer 6.5 - 7.5. You can apply a bit of lime to the soil to fix this and raise the pH. Fertilizing with a vege fertilizer that is too high in nitrogen (leaf growth, the first number in the n-p-k fertilizer ratio on the packet) and not enough potash (flower growth, the second number). A better fertilizer will be one like a tomato fertiliser which has the middle number higher to encourage flowers. Not a vege fertliser with the first number higher. Check this article for more quick tips on drainage, pests and diseases that might be holding back your plants.
