I live in 7B VA with heavy clay. The lawn was mostly Creeping Charlie. I did a lot of weeding to NO avail. I decided to plant white clover in hopes of it taking over. The competition has been going on for 10 years at this point. I can’t declare clover the winner, but it definitely is holding its own. The bunnies adore the clover and so do the bees. The nitrogen fixing of the clover may help my veggies and pollinator flower beds. All of this is an attempt to keep herbicides and chemical fertilizers out of my yard. 🐞🐝🦋🐇

I have clover seeds waiting for me to sow. How much sand did you use in your spreader and what setting did you put it on? Do you have any concerns about birds, squirrels, or rabbits, if you have them in your part of town, coming in and feeding on all of the sprouted clover? I miss clover. It was always in our yard. Pretty cool to go put and find 4 leaf clover. : )

I did not measure the sand but maybe three or four shovelfuls. Or maybe one bag or half a bag. You can play it by ear. The bag that I had covered 1000 ft.². The setting on my spreader was at 3. The clover seeds are so small. I don’t really worry so much about birds, although that is a possibility. Thanks for watching!

@@Courtannica 1) I went to amazon, 2) searched white dutch clover, 3) chose to use outsidepride seller and bought 2lbs bag of white dutch clover $18, I also bought 2lbs of dichondra seed $35. 4) used my EGO tiller cultivator in bare clay patches (about 1000 total square feet of bare spots) 5) I wish I had amended something into clay but I didn't. 6) Spread by hand equal parts clover/dichondra (let them fight it out) 7) light water once per day 8) sprouts within 3 days, though very slow growing after 5 weeks now. 9) I don't think a single dichondra has sprouted, perhaps I should have buried dichondra instead of just spread on top 10) been doing this stuff with hand rake and shovel for years, buying ego cultivator saved so much time and effort.

I also planted wildflowers, cannas, and marigolds. I wanted to plant Clover, but I need to clean the rocks, and it might be too late now.

@@charito0o0 - Please watch the updated video on the clover lawn before you plant your clover. Bottom line... if you are starting fresh in a bare spot, do it! In my existing lawn with the St. Augustine grass, no Bueno! It is not too late to plant, just keep it watered for about 10 days until they start to germinate. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

I got interested in sewing Clover last Year, that was because we already had patches of Clover in our existing gras lawn, and i like how it always looks green all summer 😊. So about a month ago i took the discision to try to sew Clover in the rest of the lawn. So i have sewn white Clover into most of the lawn, and a smaller area with microclover. I am still waiting to see the result 😊 Looking forward to see how your lawn progress😊

I like how clover covers the ground, but I don't like it when it flowers because I have 8 dogs! I don't want them getting stung by bees! Other than grass, is there any other ground cover that doesn't produce flowers? Please respond, thx

Mini clover is expensive, I stopped doing all that work , I just threw out the clover by hand , clover will spread.

Water is not an issue where I live because it rains almost everyday of the year. However, I am sick and tired to have to mow the lawn and when I say lawn I mean a mixture of grass and weeds (mostly weeds in fact), so I wonder, will the clover will take over and prevent the grass from growing so I will not have to mow anymore and will it suffocate the weeds?

2-4-DB works as well as duracore, but my clover never dies in the winter and starts blooming in February in NC. Once it’s established it chokes 98% of the weeds out.

do you know if planting clover in my existing centipede/augustine lawn will end up transitioning the whole lawn to clover? i want a good mix and for the current grass to still thrive. i also live in DFW

Clover grows great with St Augustine, plus it’d have a good feel on your bare feet. They are both at their best when mowed at 3-4 inches. St Augustine is more thirsty than miniclover and slightly more shade tolerant, so keep that in mind. Assuming you’re planning on seeding in the fall as it’s kinda late to start now, you may want to lay down a couple doses of Butyrac 200 2-4 weeks before planting for best results. It may hurt the weakest of your St Augustine, have little to no effect on clover, and kill most other broadleaf weeds, especially chickweed. It will also likely kill off your centipede grass. I’d want to kill off the centipede grass anyways because centipede grass is invasive, is ideally mowed closer to 1-2 inches, and it will compete with the clover. The clover may end up shading out the centipede grass anyways, but that could take a couple years. If I were you I’d put a good layer of Butyrac 200 down in early September, another layer of Butyrac 200 in mid September at a lower concentration, water in late September, overseed with miniclover in early October, water every day until November (optional secondary spot-seed halfway through), mow at 3-4 inches in early November, water the first couple days after mowing, then leave it alone/pull weeds as necessary until early March and overseed with miniclover one last time, then water every day until early April, mow at 3-4 inches or let the clover bloom, but I’d eventually want to mow it back down to 3-4 inches by the end of May. After it’s fully established in summer of 2025 you really shouldn’t ever need to fertilize again, clover is such a great nitrogen fixer that it’s often used as a cover crop. You might could get away with only 3-5 mowings per year, but St Augustine is still pretty thirsty so you’d probably still have to water at least once a week in order to maintain it through the summer. Overall your yard will be more green year round than it is right now, and it’ll be better for your local environment.

Hey there! Thanks for your question. So far it is average... This video was for planting the micro clover in an existing lawn. I planted "micro clover" in fescue. Fescue is pretty hardy and I think the fescue is chocking out the clover. I have some areas that have taken well, but clumps. So, if I were to do it over (which I probably will) I would take the grass out entirely and start over and plant the micro clover by itself. At least in this area where the fescue is growing. The other thought is I might plant "regular" clover instead of the "micro" clover to give it a fighting chance with the fescue. I have an area that has Bermuda Grass that I might experiment with. Living in the desert (here in El Paso), watering the grass is just ridiculously expensive. A more expensive alternative you might look into is Kurapia (kurapia.com). Apparently micro clover is hardy to zone 3 so it should be fine in NY. I’m considered it for my southwest Ontario Canada lawn as I am in zone 6.

Not as many. I cut mine at 1.5-2 inches and they’re all gone. But it’s great because it grows in early spring, preventing most weeds that start to grow before your grass comes in.
