How to Play a Jazz Samba on Drum Set

This video will show you how to play a standard Jazz Samba on drum kit. This groove uses a Brazilian clave as it’s core, which is used in Latin Jazz and Samba Dance Music. In this video I break this groove down to show you play each part, line it up, and develop the chops needed to play the rhythms.

According to Brazilians it’s not ok to play triplets like that on the ride (they kind of get offended) instead they play notes 1,2-4 the third note in that 16th bar should be silent if played in triplets (which actually sounds pretty much like samba and if you play the 3rd 16th note on the cross stick adds more color) or simply play it as originally written; all the four 16th notes.
