Another invaluable lesson on the road to learning what matters. Learning to walk lines on a 4 string bass is the secret to learning your fretboard up and down the length of the neck. This where Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin fame, learned to 'sight read' and therefore become a great guitar player with some fantastic solo skills. I, VI, II and V in Jazz and Blues are the opening salvos to playing well with the movement of your chords. Thank you again. Love your program.

thanj you for this lesson. i am a complete musical novice but have wanted a bass guitar for a long time. i finally got myself a squier affinity jazz bass in sunburst just over a week ago and love it i have to say :-) the hard part is starting to get to grips with playing but lessons like yours are fantastic for a beginner like myself. starting to be aboe to play a walking bassline feels fantastic i have to say. i will now be practising it all over the neck 👍 i will never be a great musician but i am definitely going to keep trying to get better peace ☺

Great. I first played bass in a band in 1969. Got an electric in 1976 and an upright in 1988. Learns something new every day. When I'm faced with a new chord progressions, I've been jumping around using mostly using the one and the five notes of each chord. This idea of yours is a really cool option. Thanks.

I’m a guitar player becoming a bass player ..... Watching you play I now under stand the 1-2-4 finger over three half steps that separate bass players from the 1-2-3 fingering of guitar players. I’ve been giving myself away 🤣 This lesson was very easy to understand and will help me tremendously. It seems that if I can learn the major progressions in music (1-5-6-4; 2-5-1; 1-4-5-4; etc ...) and their variations bass playing will become natural. I’m finding that a lot of groups look for “good” bass players because those who play bass and are ok with kickin’ it with the drummer are not always easy to find. Even in the church setting. 💒 I’ve also heard that showing up with a 6 or 7 string bass will keep you in the musician’s unemployment line 🤣

I used to have a killer 6 string Ibanez Soundgear Natural Finish bass that sounded AWESOME, but the way I had to bend my wrist to play it started causing nerve damage, so it had to go! Great lesson! I love walking bass lines and am trying to figure them out. (as in improv vs. just copying what you & others do) As a very mediocre guitar player, I find bass to be a total different beast, even with the same notes & strings. Thinking bass vs. guitar is a lot different way of looking at the fretboard.
