one small thing: you never have to overproduce things like crazy (8:45) as after the ship went back to origin once, it will carry enough to supply its travel time (assuming you producing enough according to your statistics-menu) small tip: for the above reason, traveltime does not really matter at all, it just affects the time for things balancing itself out. also what I like to do if you need a ressource on both islands, set a minimum stock, and you can set the transfer amount to 50 all the time. it just needs a little longer to balance itself.
@Shiftry87 Жыл бұрын
Travel time betwinn regions absolutly matters, maybe not as mutch in the very beginning as u can load up 200t on 1 clipper and its unlikly your gonna need that mutch of anything early on. lets say it takes 20min for a fully loaded 200t clipper to do a full trip that means that if your island is consuming more then 10t/min 200t/20min=10t/min it dosent matter if your producing enough the ship isent capable of making the round trip fast enough before the supply will run out. The ship cant go fast enough and u need another ship to help so travel time betwinn regions absolutly matters.
@Shiftry87 Жыл бұрын
It intresting that u start with the hardest 2 star AI if u dont change any starting AI. If u dont ignore diplomacy its not that hard to avoid war with her but she for sure is the hardest 2 star AI by far. Also for new players there is a way to calculate how mutch of any resource u need on your ships when transporting betwinn regions to not run out. First setup a route and fill 1 full slot with cargo and let it run back and forth 1 or 2 times then open up your production menu (Ctrl or Shift Q) move over to the TRADE tab and find the route that is transporting the resource your looking for and look at the time differance betwinn each time they unload there cargo at the destination, thats how long time it takes in min per trip and then u take that number and multiply it with how mutch your island is using which u can find in the production tab (Ctrl or Shift Q) and is always displayed in consumption/min so its easy to compare. So if u need 2t/min of cotton fabrics and it takes lets say 20 min round trip u need 2*20=40 cotton fabrics on that ship as a minimum to not run out before your ship can drop off another load. Keep in mind the more u load up a ship the slower its gonna be so always transport abit more then u need just in case. U can do this in 1 region aswell but the travel time there are mutch shorter and easier to change on the fly. What many new players may forget is when this demand goes up the more u need u may have enough ships picking it up but your still running out becouse the island they are loading it from dosent have enough storage space to allow the ships to pick up a full load. Lets say u need 200 of a resource but the island storage is only 180 u are gonna run into problems with ships not being able to pick up what u set so u need to expand the islands total storage capacity.

Something I think would be worth pointing out is that you are actually able to build up relations, take quests, and even trade with the pirates it can just be difficult. Trading with them can be beneficial though as they sell items you can't get anywhere else, mainly weapons, and they will also sell you ships that are significantly stronger than the ones you can construct normally.

Thanks for this overview from March 2023. I can currently buy the Complete Edition of the game for about 43 Euros (and they throw in a free game on Connect), which is quite a lot for me to spend on a game (yea, I don't look at 60-70 Dollars/Euros as "normal" in the first place), but I'm willing to make an exception if there's a lot of content and it's one of those games that will get me hooked for dozens to hundreds of hours. - The thing is, I'm just not that sure. - This game seems like it can become convoluted. And that's not to say I just want a very dumb building-game or something, but if it has so many layers and intricacies, it might become exhausting and too time-consuming to get through. I mean, despite I said I'd hope a game would keep me playing for hundreds of hours, I meant for paying a rather hefty price (which 40+ Euros for a single game is to me), I also don't want it to be so complicated that I NEED to spends hundreds or like a thousand hours to complete things. - I don't know. But then I did hear that the depth builds up gradually, so perhaps they were considerate of getting the hang of the game as you play. Edit: Alright, the DLC-part actually convinced me. 😆 That kind of variety makes it a lot more interesting to me. And you know what this game actually makes me think of?... Like one of those model-building tables, you know. It doesn't look like a real world, it looks more abstract, almost like this tower-defense game called "Toy Soldiers" (though less abstract and more detailed than that), which is based on actual vintage toys or figures on a table coming to life. - Anyway, I bit the bullet for €43,20 for the Year 4 Complete Edition, plus 'The Last Friend' thrown in for free (unrelated, but that was the offer, they almost insisted). - Seems like it's one of the best deals on this game, now here's hoping I'll enjoy it. 😜 And... have time for it...

I've never player Anno 1800 before. Should I buy all season passes (as there is a special offer on steam). Or should I just buy the base game and buy new content as soon as I master the base game?
@ColonelDamneders Жыл бұрын
It's on sale fairly regularly since it's quite old. I believe the full edition with the season passes is worth it especially on sale since its some of the highest quality DLC you can get, but I'm not you so to be safe go with the base game and pickup DLC later if you feel like it. Still hours of game with just the base!

Why is it that shadows move when you move the camera??... Do developers think this is how it's supposed to go, because I've seen this problem in other games. - I'm not crazy to think that shadows don't magically change when you change position in the world, do they. The light-source (as in, THE SUN) would need to change position for the shadow-cast to change, so... I don't know what the deal is with that. - It just seems like they didn't bother to disconnect the virtual light-source from the virtual camera. Unless it's completely intention so that the lighting always looks consistent or something, but that's still not right.
@ColonelDamneders Жыл бұрын
I believe it’s intentional to have consistent lighting for the player

This game is like the dark souls of the grand strategy/city building genre. Really complicated with lots of elements going at once that will kick your ass and force some restarts before you finally start to get any kind of hang of it. The biggest challenge of the game is simply to git gud through trial and error till you gain even the most basic form of competence at it.

One thing that hasn't been made clear about the population. Do farmers upgrade to workers when you upgrade their homes? Are you robbing Peter to pay Paul here?
@ColonelDamneders Жыл бұрын
Yes. When you upgrade to a worker residence you lose the 10 farmers to gain 10-20 workers so you need to build enough farm houses to cover the losses. It does end up being quite a snowballing effect needing more farmers all the time but you quickly get used to it
