Another great video Matt. Regarding your observation that this is not classic rumba from Cuba, that is correct but in this case it is a different kind of rumba-flamenco rumba that comes from the traditional flamenco music of the gypsies from Andalucia in southern Spain. Especially if we turn pay attention to the clapping and stomping that we hear here, which together with the guitars is the sound of flamenco music. So it is justified to have the word rumba in the title of the song.

Thank you for this, I totally need to unlock the upper octave. I am doing some exercise but nothing beats the feeling that come back when you’re playing real music.

one of my favorite tunes!! but I have to confess: I've never learned to play the melody up the octave the second time, I guess this is my cue to get back in the shed. absolutely LOVE your stuff Matt

yea lots of Brazilian music is 2/4 where the second beat is emphasized, a percussion player (pandeiro etc) will slightly mute the 1st, let the 2nd ring out

@@LearnJazzBasswithMattRybicki I played trumpet through college (Towson with Hank Levy). My favorite albums all have great bass. Chick Corea's Friends with Eddie Gomez, Heath Brothers At the Public Library (Percy of course), Steps Ahead Eddie Gomez, and Maynard Ferguson 4 and 5 Live at Jimmie's with Rick Petrone playing Stay Loose with Bruce.

I’m interested to know what strings you ended up with. You strategically don’t show any of the silk windings. 😂 I initially chimed in on your first video of the Shen strapped with TS medium.
@LearnJazzBasswithMattRybickiАй бұрын
@@ericatanas2481 oh not showing windings was purely accidental. I went back to Spiro super flexible and Oliv G. Until I get my new bass from Upton - super excited for that
