The subtle differences in the Young brothers' rhythm parts that most people probably wouldn't notice are part of what makes their sound so great and unique. They really did have an amazing way of communicating with and complementing each other with their instruments.

Man, you just solved a big puzzle for me. The difference between the Malcolm and Angus parts is the magic ingredient that you hear but can't put your finger on until you really analyze it closely. I am convinced that there is something that happens when siblings play in a band together. (Pantera?) Great tutorial. I have a pretty good sense about playing ACDC, and I think timing is 90% of their sound, and Beating Around the Bush has been the one song that I could never nail 100%. Thank you so much for the work you put into this. This has to be one of their best songs.

I've come across your videos a few times over the years while deep in the KZbin wormhole, and I have to say, I love your Les Paul. It doesn't look like just another burst, it looks unique without looking tacky. And this song is one of the few AC DC riff I never could quite figure out by ear for some reason. Yet it's so simple when you show us how. Thanks for the lesson man! Cheers.

I have to be a pest here. In the opening riff that end on the plucked open D, you can hear the open A slightly ring which is a result of your finger coming off it from the previous note. I was doing the same exact thing and it annoyed me, so I learned to mute it with my fretting finger as I pluck the D. If you listen to the album version, Angus is playing every note very clean with no overlap.
@blacksabbath10224 жыл бұрын
Hey man this is awesome. I don't know if you'll see this but I've scoured every video on youtube for Malcolms rhythm part that kicks in like a locomotive in Thunderstruck which may be my favorite thing he's ever done. Everybody concentrates on Angus's intro but nobody has done Malcolm correctly and if anyone could do it you're the caliber of player that could get it done. I've even gone as far as listening to the isolated rhythm guitar part you can find on youtube. Anyway, thanks for all you do.

Just super accurate and awesome. BTW I love the way in this song how where the riff repeats after the end of the chorus, the second time, just before the solo, Angus delays a bit compared to the first time (or perhaps the first time is rushed a bit) and it just launches the solo. I also love how the rushed timing of the first post chorus riff makes it sound “tougher”.
@jonginder54944 жыл бұрын
Correction the timing of the first post chorus riff is slowed a touch and doesn’t swing until the G E G E bit. Noticed Angus also bends the fat G a touch sometimes for a bit more swing.

Great breakdown - particularly Malcolm's part vs Angus' part. It is great for guitarists in learning how to make the groove and sit with the drums and bass in a groove (rather than always playing 'over' the rhythm seeing it as a separate thing - the biggest failing of many guitarists in my view). Back Street Confidential (original gigged version in the Australian pubs) was how we knew this song, then they tightened it up to make it BAtB. I'm thinking that's why everyone knows it only as Beating Around the Bush? Anyways very nice to see this breakdown!
