After several years of practicing and playing bass, I can tell his lesson is a blessing and has got everything a bass player needs to know about. I wish I could have this lesson in my early years. I recommend to practice it over and over again to catch the essence and the spirit of it. This is just beautiful and graceful and will change my playing for ever.

Simply hearing you play interval exercises through the chord changes sounded very musical-my fretless bass has never sounded anything like that, but it does give me some inspiration on improving, haha.

Highly recommended that you keep in with Keith. I’ve known of him for decades as a gigging musician. Fellow musicians who had worked with him told me he was an amazing bassist. I’d never seen him until these videos. Now I see not only a brilliant bass player but a fantastic teacher too. 👌🌟😎

Hi Keith - Thanks for the great lesson - Lots to digest, even though in theory I knew all of this already - Would you mind sharing you effect settings? - I am hearing reverb and chorus - Anything else? - Thanks again!

@@jukkaharju7878 Thanks🙏 You’ve got good ears. The effects are nothing special. Stock chorus from my video editing package, which is actually from Logic Pro X, but I literally only have a touch on to round the round out. Similarly, the reverb is a basic Logic plug in. I thinks it’s a medium hall. I only use a touch, purely to stop the bass sounding too flat and to help it sit in the mix a little. Aside from that the bass is flat (tone 75% off) and no compression. Regarding the theory, knowing it is one thing, but you only really get to know it when you start using it and being aware of what you are playing. Thanks again for your kind comments.

@@academyofbass Oh cool - So I can pick some things up by ear after all these years - That's a really nice fretless sound - I was able to dial in almost the same, but have to play around with the tone knob - Had mine at full - Really appreciate your practical approach lessons - Thanks for teaching us how to fish

@@jukkaharju7878 It's mostly down to the bass. I was using a Squire fretless that plays ok, but (IMHO) the pickups aren't great. It's easy t over saturate a fretless and swamp it with chorus/reverb, bur sometimes less is more and allows you character of the instrument to sing out a little. It also took me years to appreciate the tone control! Backing it off to varying degrees can really help the punch and definition.

This is a great lesson. One of the great take aways for me was starting with a chord tone and not leading with the root. You always organize your material great. Thanks for the lesson, it was what I needed.

That's nice, shame that I don't have a fretless.

Thanks. It all applies to fretted bass too. The slides might not sound quite as cool, but it will all work 100%.
