Believe it or not, there's a massive inherent problem with the bass guitar in the way it's built, and this issue affects every bassist, regardless of skill level or experience.
In this video, James dives deep into this problem and, more importantly, shows you how to fix it with a simple technique adjustment that will only take you 6 minutes a day to practice. Mastering this technique could revolutionize your playing and take your skills to the next level.

This exercise made me think of the bass line in Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon." The technique that you demonstrated is well-suited to playing this song.

Excellent exercise, James. Sadly, as ever, despite filling in my email address I never get the free PDF sent to me. I don't what it is but it never works for me. I thought I'd try again after a long hiatus, but the technical problem remains. Never mind, keep up the great work.

I'll try this. I usually play simandl due to old, worn and damaged hands and wrists not to mention an alien short pinky so anything that may help my fretting is welcome. After I commit the notes to muscle memory I put the backing track into Transcribe at 60%. I usually get up to 80-90% quite quickly, but that last hop to 100% is always a struggle. Some days making 80% is all my hands can do. When shifting remember to take your thumb with your hand. This little exercise will be "interesting" for me.

Great as always. In spots such as at 11:25 you show using the 10th fret of the D string but I don't see your fingers going there. Is there an error in the tab or am I missing something?

Why everone who do lesson about playing basic warmup exercises keeps doing „click for free tab!!!111one!!” and then after click its „this free tab for something you can write down watching video is only if you subscribe for newsletter about things you dont want to read”? Anyway, this is decent lesson with good footage and proper explaination.

On the bass guitar the positions line up with fretboard using the first dinger. I think you maybe thinking of the upright bass…

Can just one bass instructor make a solid effort to show us where what note his fingers are touching. We cannot learn at the speed you are teaching.

And if you listen carefully you will hear the instructor tell you which finger is hitting the Fret as he is moving his hands. At least I heard him say in the last exercise. But I agree if you just watch the hand on the fretboard it is often hard to see which finger is being utilized and where

Try bass Buzz guy Josh as an alternative. He's pretty darn specific about his fingering and it's pretty clear visually speaking. He does great beginner bass videos

OK. So, what's the problem with the way the bass guitar is built? I note you have a Sadowsky in your hands. I'm sure Roger would like to be let in on the problem and how to re-design the bass.

I would have subscribed if I could have heard the bass. Your " background music " was way to Brite drowning out the bass lessons. Your vocal covered over the base notes. You not using an acoustic bass . It may sound good to you in your studio. But you can't really hear it.
