Simply one of the best tutorials I've ever seen on Simple Twist of Fate. Concise and to the point. Those that wish to know, might be interested that the exact same fingerings can be used to play this song in open E without a capo. While I understand why Dylan plays it in open D with a capo, just seems to sound better in Open E to me.
@tedpeterson11568 жыл бұрын
Can you tell by listening to the original recording if he used a capo or not? I think a true open E sounds better too, but lightly built guitars may not like it.
@JerrysGuitarBar8 жыл бұрын
Open E and Open D capo'd at 2 should sound identical and impossible to tell apart. I believe he capo'd at two based on what various people involved with him at the time seem to say. But it was internet research and I have no way to know for sure.

+Jerry's Guitar Bar Hello Jerry - Thanks for the reply! But most of all Thanks for the lesson. There are a lot of tutorials on KZbin, but it's always nice to see yours, because I can always count on them as being faithful to the original.
@GaryBook5 жыл бұрын
Most folks use open D and capo on second fret because you tune down in open D and it puts less stress on the neck of the guitar and it makes it easier to play Open D and capo second and get Open E.
@MrFrampo564 жыл бұрын
Jerry's Guitar Bar Hi. Fantastic tutorial as always. I’d just like to say that open E and open D capo at 2 will sound subtly different as with a capo there are no truly ‘open’ strings. The notes will be the same obviously but there will be a slightly different ‘feel ‘ to it. Peace.

I think the 1.31.86 Garcia/Kahn acoustic performance of this is absolutely incredible. For the Dylan purist learning the song as it is on Blood on the Tracks is understandable. But then I go over to the Garcia/Kahn version, and it just gives me goosebumps. I like to think Dylan would agree.

Jerry, I must tell you that I'm not a trained guitarist and I basically go around KZbin looking for a tutorial when I want to learn a new song and I've seen many of them. By far, yours are the best. I've watched a number of them and I'm able to nail every song that you teach. First of all, the pace of the lessons are perfect - not too fast or slow (Some people spend 15 minutes showing how to tune the guitar, for example) And your voice (maybe due to your accent) is so reassuring ans calm that it really lends itself to teaching. Thanks for your videos. And one more thing. I have a request. Can you do a video on Buckets of Rain by Dylan? It would be greatly appreciated, as I'm planning to do a performance of the entire Blood on the Tracks album, and that song is really stumping me. Thanks again for the videos!! -Dave Edit: I just found it and purchased it from you web site Great!! Thanks again!!
