If my piano teacher had taught me this in 1972 instead of the same old boring "etudes" and classical songs, I would probably still be playing piano today. Here I am today, *finally* learning what I always wanted as a kid, but didn't know how to ask for.
@flushot65132 жыл бұрын
Think alot of old band teachers are stick in the mud kinda like back to future guess you weren't ready for that but your kids are gonna love it they wanted you play their way my band teacher never liked what I did on drums

So true. But when I got old enough to pay for my own lessons, I went on a manhunt finding a piano teacher that plays modern western music. I too, was raised mostly on classical music and some contemporary pop music. But I got aggressive and actually started learning a lot of rock, country, and boogie woogie on my own with help from my teachers. All the teachers I had, instead of them teaching me, I actually ended up teaching my teachers because I progressed so quickly.

Thanks for sharing man. My son was on the verge of quitting piano. He was enrolled in classical lessons and was doing the etudes and classical songs and I could tell he wasn’t enjoying it anymore. I canceled his classes and He started picking up swing on his own six months ago and he’s been playing his best piano. I can tell he’s actually enjoying it and having fun too. I hope you have fun on your journey as well. Cheers!

Unfortunately, all many teachers know is classical music. I’m a piano teacher and I’m learning styles like this now for my students. But I’m not very proficient myself so it’s challenging to teach. Most teachers just teach what they where taught.
@aga1nst Жыл бұрын
I'm thinking the same - I now learn piano as an old guy and it's going quite easy and fun. And the only reason is because I only play songs I like. I imagine what it must be for a little kid - I guess they play mostly classical pieces, Chopin etudes, etc... which for a kid must be a pure torture. Like training a bear to dance.

Awesome. I just impressed a room full of friends playing this riff on the piano I got for Christmas. cheers!

Finally someone with a fantastic teaching technique who guides you to learn at your own pace. I have been playing piano for over 40 years and realise I tried to do too much too soon and got nowhere with Boogie Woogie. I am looking forward to going back to the basics and learning, with your help how to do it properly. Lastly, thank you for not introducing yourself shouting "Hey Dudes, whats happening?"

Hi. Snap. I’m a little older than you as a kid from as young as I can remember my mothers family all played piano, but as a kid I wasn’t encouraged maybe they were sick of hearing non stop piano music. I would so love to just be able to play a boogie. My hero was Winifred Attwell. My cousin played her red rag tune brilliantly

It's been a decade since I last played the piano regularly and this is such a nice and straightforward introduction to boogie woogie! Been sitting for half an hour just working on hand independence with this
@robertYTB78g2 жыл бұрын
This is such a great lesson, thank you heaps. I tried Boogie Woogie from KZbin 3 1/2 years ago, when the best boogie beginner lessons I could find all started me shifting the position of the left hand right away C, F, G, and tried me learning a riff with the right hand that wasn't anywhere near as "in synch" with the left hand rhythm as this. Unlike this lesson (which I can play) it was all impossible then, despite much effort and repeated attempts over the years. I think your path to gradually increasing the right hand complexity is so helpful and pragmatic, and it shows what a good teacher you are.

This was great - now I'm a bit different - I'm an accordion player trying to do boogie woogie. I was having difficulty putting together a right hand and this was just the thing. Thanks much for the effort.

I have just finished day 5 of your boogie woogie course , great teaching style . I spent an hour or so a day and nailed the riff with both hands across the progression . Loving this , very grateful for the course . Not played a piano so getting the fingers relaxed etc is the most difficult thing . Thank you so much . Trefor

Hey Joseph … Well you are the official Boogie Woogie representative in the Torah Room overlooking St. Thomas Harbor in the Virgin Islands. Our “new” piano is a 1949 Acrosonic (Balwin), harmonically great for a Professor Longhair style of “barrel house” boogie woogie. Warehouse grade, fireproof brick walls, 50’ square many French door open to harbor and other warehouses and ships below. I’m a woodwind player struggling with a painful back but I will have something for our next gathering, this Friday. Thanks much … see you on my next tune. Subscribed. 🍷 L'Chaim

Beginner here…. Was going to quit giving this a try because I couldn’t get the coordination/timing. I slowed it WAY down (rockin’ it at turtle speed). I am able to do it. With lots of practice should be at normal/acceptable speed in a couple days. Thank you!

Thank you for the lesson! This is the second video of yours I've watched, I really like the way you explain the chords and there progressions. I am a guitar player that wants to add piano / keyboard to the mix, and in this video is the first time I ever heard the term power chord used for describing playing the piano, that was a very interesting bit of knowledge to pick up.

I'm here as a guitarist of 10+ years learning some keys and I can't stress enough how you don't need to play it fast just yet! Stick with it, get it down, take a break if needed, come back. So many people give up because they can't play to the original tempo straight away/within a few tries.

Thank you for this! It would be great if you could talk about what chords and chord combinations makes boogie woogie.
