Hi! Why it not like C on the piano?

Never mind. Have read an article on that:)

@@tomcypher3864 Great! Yes, the clarinet is a "transposing" instrument, which means the note names for clarinet are one note higher than piano. So when we play a "C" on clarinet, it is actually a B-flat on the piano. I hope that makes sense!

@@DrSelfridgeMusic that is really strange to me. Why not to just say that the "c" is a b flat?
@DrSelfridgeMusic
@DrSelfridgeMusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@hubbabubba5177 I know, it does seem strange! But there are actually good reasons for it. One reason is so that people can easily switch between different instruments in one family of instruments. For example, once you learn the notes on alto sax, you can easily switch to tenor sax, baritone sax, and soprano sax because they all have the same set of fingerings. If we didn't have transposing instruments, you would have to learn a whole new set of fingerings when you switched to a new instrument. Does that make sense?

@@DrSelfridgeMusic it does actually! So it just takes stress off of the players (and puts it on the composer if I'm not mistaken lol)

Hi! When I try to play it, my clarinet makes a high pitched squeak, and I don’t have my mouth piece in my mouth that far, and besides that it won’t make the sound.

Hello, I am very late and you probably already figured this out but, The problem is your embouchure. You need to have your lip tucked in. You should watch a video. I am a beginner but this advice ehlped me and i can play the C not very clearly. I hope this helps!

Why is a clarinet c a while tone down from a piano c?
@DrSelfridgeMusic
@DrSelfridgeMusic 11 ай бұрын
Great question - the clarinet is a "transposing" instrument, which means the note that the player reads is different than the actual pitch that comes out. Clarinet, Trumpet, Soprano Sax, and Tenor Sax are all in the key of B-flat, which means when the player reads and plays what they think is a "C", the pitch that actually sounds is a B-flat. It is a bit of a confusing concept, but there are reasons why it is useful to have instruments that transpose.

Put more pressure on your top lip and relax your lower lip, do it can gently vibrate the sound. It has to be as though you are hanging from the top lip.
