Canasta is great fun, I used to play it with my family at camp. It's easy for children to learn as long as they are mature enough to deal with a loss without getting upset. Sometimes the discard pile can grow really big, and it can become a great source of tension in the game. Who will "pick the pack" and harvest all the points first? A great social game.

I watched the first 5 minutes and I am very confused. We play with very different rules. 13 cards instead of your 11, Winner need 8500 points instead of your 5000, 3s are not used to meld but rather have a different use, and we start with needing 125 points to meld. Why such a big difference?

Thanks for the video. I've only just learnt the game using an app and it wouldn't let me proceed if I didn't have enough for my first meld! I was still melding the cards I could and then trying to discard.. After watching your video I see now what I was doing wrong. Great job!

i guess there are many different versions of the rules for canasta, which makes it confusing. We deal 13 cards each. The way I learned is that you need 125 points to meld in the first round (not 50). And you also can't take the discard pile unless you have at least 2 of that card in your hand. In addition, the meld after picking the deck cannot be part of your initial 125 points. Never heard of a black 3 blocking the discard deck. In our rules one is not allowed to discard a wild card (joker or deuce.) May I ask which set of rules you are following?

Seems that I played with another rule for 1v1 mode on the other app: The basic rule is same, but: 1.draw 2 cards instead of 1 2. The game would start with 15 cards instead of 11

Hey, there is a problem! 6min 10 sec: From the beggining the discard pile is always FROZEN. So U cant pick up the Ten using another ten and Joker because U need two NATURAL cards! I dont know, what type of program U are using, just Reed the original rules)
