RULES:
Pieces may not move backwards until they have reached farthest row. Sideways travel is allowed. Castling is allowed like normal. Once a piece has reached the farthest row, it may move like normal. Pawns retain their normal promotion and promoted pieces may move any direction. The first player to checkmate their opponent wins.

I think this variant doesn't have enough of the spirit of draughts (checkers). How about adding these rules: 1) Line pieces move as normal when not capturing, but can only capture by leaping over an enemy unit and landing on an empty square beyond; that unit is captured. 2) If the turn player _can_ capture, they _must._

Checkers Chess was also my idea, but it’s a different variant than the one explained in the video. This is how my variant works: - Eight checkers are used instead of pawns. Pawns aren’t used in this variant. All the regular eight pieces are used. - Each player sets up their regular eight pieces in their normal position and place their checkers directly in front of them. Players must place their checkers on the dark squares. - Checkers only move one square diagonally forward as they would in regular checkers. But if they’re on their starting square, they are allowed to move two squares diagonally forward if they want. The checker’s capturing method still applies. - All the regular pieces move and capture normally as they would in regular chess. - The checker can promote to a kinged checker or any of the four normal pieces: queen, rook, bishop, and knight. - A checker can also put the enemy king in check when it is one square diagonally in front of the king and the adjacent square diagonally behind the king is vacant. A kinged checker can check a king like that, but in either diagonal direction. - The pawn’s en passant rule doesn’t apply.

This chess variant playing on 8 by 8 board, with addition of four new pieces which placed on 1 line for white and 8 line for black. These four new pieces are: hawk, elephant, dragon, prime-minister. Hawk - combined powers of bishop and knight Elephant - combined powers of rook and knight Dragon - combined powers of rook and king Prime-minister - combined powers of bishop and king. Castle allowed, en passant allowed. Pawn promote into bishop, knight, rook, queen, prime-minister, hawk, elephant, dragon. The first player to checkmate your opponent wins.

Only if the piece has been "upgraded" so that it may move backwards. Just like in normal chess, it only counts as "check" if the piece could take the king. An un-upgraded piece, which can't move backwards, cannot check a king behind it.

It's not. King can't take queen because of pawn, it can't share spaces with it's own troops, and, considering that kings will likely never make it to the other side of the board and that it's trapped behind it's own pawns, it likely hasn't done enough to enable the back step. That's a checkmate, right then and there.

I thought it was going to be where one player is an army of chess peices, and the other is an army of checkers peices, with them both having the mechanics of the corresponding game. By that I mean that the chess peices move like whatever peice and go on a checker's peices square to take it, but then checker's peices all move one and jump over a peice to capture it. ♟
