Whenever somebody says “don’t play this opening” for whatever reason, don’t listen to them and study whatever you want. Chess is a game and games are supposed to be fun, learn what’s fun for you to learn and you’ll have a good time
@Gojo_356842 ай бұрын
Sometimes you should listen because if you learn real bad openings it will not be fun seeing your elo vanish
@matthewklahn32042 ай бұрын
Yeah some openings really shouldn't be played by the vast majority of players because they are so complex like any Sicilian
@jermarcusgreen55492 ай бұрын
@@matthewklahn3204 wrong, I don't study much but have most my success with the sicilian
@matthewklahn32042 ай бұрын
@@jermarcusgreen5549 your personal experience doesn't make me wrong, it just shows you are playing at a lower level and likely are stronger with tactics than those you are playing. Sicilian is the sharpest, most theoretical opening, especially the Najdorf or dragon variations. Someone who has studied against the Sicilian can really punish moves that don't even look like mistakes. As you progress in Elo you will have to change openings or learn the vast number of lines to continue to progress. You just are at a level where openings aren't as important as fundamentals, avoiding blunders, and tactics.
@thefreshmailandАй бұрын
@@matthewklahn3204 You said that Sicilian shouldn't be played because of its complexity, but there are many chess experts who think differently. Sure, Sicilian is complex, especially the Najdorf, but the sooner you begin playing them the better you will get. That is what GM Naroditsky is preaching and I see a lot of truth in it. Additionally, you will have opponents who won't be experts in tackling Scilians as well which evens out the lack of theory. Ideally you should play an opening you fully understand, but that is rarely the case if you are under 2000 Elo. Often times you have to play an opening over years till you fully grasp the concepts. You see, the argument that someone shouldn't play a certain opening because of its complexity is a fairly weak one. Far more important is that the opening is fun to play because that way you will be invested in the position and are more likely to invest time analyzing the games and learning theory.

Lower elo they mean is below 1000. They better study easier openings like king defense and London. The reason they didn't recommend it is because most of the hard opening requires to play precisely as beginners have low accuracy when playing chess so it depends on skill to play. Kind of like playing hard characters in a game.

Also how easiest is it when you need to study all your opponents respond like najorf and ruy lopez. There are reasons why they didn't recommend.

The Dragon's advantage is that it has a very clear plan: Control d4 and the dark squares. But honestly play the Sicilian you like the most. I started playing Najdorf when I was 1600 and did not understand shit, but after years of playing I understand more and more. The sooner you begin the better. Most importantly is that it is fun, that way you will stay motivated play and learning chess.
