Hi Beasty, I have one question regarding the walling that you do from time to time: at 01:16:17 you wall with gold on the outside of the wall - does it make sense if you move wall few tiles forward, you will have that gold safe, or it doesn't make difference? (game is prob. over, but just wondering do you do it on purpose with gold out, is there some high lvl calculation or something :))

if you need that gold you can create that pocket of palisades and delete the obsolete ones or build a gate once the new layer is finished. he chose a fast and cheap way to draw the palisade. making that pocket right away would cost more resources, building time and micro management, while under pressure of knights - all while he already had a safer and more secure gold mine in the east under his barbican.

Hi Beasty. Yesterday I played FFA with zhuxi against a conq3 Chinese player with both 300 pop, and I lost my whole army to his, 4 times. He said his Chinese in FFA is unbeatable. I wonder if you have interest to spend like 15 min in your stream to go over this game, watch the combats and analyze how to beat him? His main strategy is to deploy half the army as hand cannons and leveraging their range and mobility to trade damage effectively.I have thought about it for a long time and still can’t figure out how to win. (I thought I could win by siege like I did in the game but i lost 4 times). I would appreciate a lot if you can do this cause there is basically no guide I can find on to win in late imperial ❤

There was a game from 2008 Golden Horde, that had ranged units suffer penalty when engaged in melee by 1 unit, when by 2 ? Either switch to melee wepaon (there was such a possibility) or use fists as weapon.

you cerntainly dont want to need to use fists against and armed opponent. your chances of survival are almost zero. every type of ranged unit had backup weapons for melee. taking it realistically, ranged units were not completely helpless in melee. you can look up english history, where longbowmen did engage in melee after they ran out of arrows very successfully.

hand cannoneers will make short work of them. some sacrificial spearmen on the front might help also, but will not kill them, just provide a somewhat cheap and effective frontline.

nob loses out only range and got some damage shifted towards ranged units from general damage - as far as i saw, will still be stupidly strong. even the aim seems to stay the same, but patch nodes are subject to change

Can anyone explain to me how to counter mass elephant as China? I tried with springalds + gunfire bit it was not enough. Cannons would be better? Pls help I have just few hours per week for gaming. Maybe i shouldnt play 2tc against civ with elephants?

You do know archers used to switch to melee when engaged in melee ? Strelci used a bardiche in melee. A great mechanic cut off at/before release. Present in AoE 3, as well as in DoW games. Not switching to melee as a defense measure should provide penalty of sorts, same like when units run and somebody is in melee, from behind. Armor wasnt that great in the rear. I think this was shown in campaign, but AoE 2 enjoyers were apparently too loud. Imagine archer using a bow and unless arrow does something, being in melee makes it impossible to reload the bow, crossbow, gunpowder thing. Those units having bonuses vs melee units in melee ? Atmosphere breaker imo.
