Good to be reminded of the points you make about tremelo technique. I'd just like to say for all you performing and recording artists out there, that there's a great quote from Beethoven that I keep in the back of my mind whenever I play in front of an audience (who cares about in the studio anyway these days, where everything can be comped or edited in the repair shop as it were). Anyway, Beethoven once said, (and I quote from DK's The Classical Music Book) "To play a wrong note is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable." Even Segovia made a few mistakes here and there if you listen closely. But who cares. The passion was always there. Thank you for your inspiring videos. They mean a hell of a lot these days. Muchas gracias.

This practice (as others) helps fix the brain to the fingers so what you hear is eventually played without as much 'thought'. Amazing, because in places the pattern is simple but it's the dedication to the art that makes it stick.

Thank you Alexandra, nice to see you doing this for us! A tremolo practice that I was shown many years ago by someone at the Stuttgart conservatory is to play the tremolo in a pattern of 4 triplets, starting with the thumb on the fretted D, 10th fret, 6th string, and i m a on the open D string. So the pattern goes: Pim/Api/Map/Ima. Then you can shift to the next pair of unison notes: G on the 5th string and open G, repeating the pattern across the strings and back. This can help to even the spacing and the emphasis of each note. It may sound complicated to some who are newer to guitar, but when tried it turns out relatively simple ;-)

You may have enlightened me as to how you achieve such a clear, rich tone by what you said (and showed) you do with the fingers on your left hand: press firmly on the strings with tip or end of your fingers. I imagine you have callouses on the tips of your fingers on your left hand which also contribute to the amazing tone you achieve.

Clear and interesting, like Part 1. For 4th finger trill/hammer on : snap off (etc) I find aiming the finger about 2-3 mm behind the fret rather than close to the fret is normally more successful. Also, as Alexandra said, touching with the tip of the finger not pad gives better sound. But it is always harder than it looks.

If I may add a comment about tremolo - I've noticed over the years that personally, I play Recuerdos or Study in A minor by Carcassi e.g. much better when my nails are shorter (about 1mm or so showing above the flesh). I find that overgrown nails may be ok for most classical guitar pieces but not for tremolo pieces such as these. I have absolutely no idea how Jason Vieaux can play Recuerdos with those monstrous nails of his! Not to mention how long nails can affect the emotion of the song. Joe Pass once said that he preferred fingerpicking to plectrums because the guitar is that much closer to the heart. I would agree. By the way, my fav renditions of Recuerdos are played by Fernando Espi and John Williams, because of the human feel. Such a mesmerizing piece. When practicing it I sometimes fall into a slight trance. Have to wake myself up to sometimes to finish the piece. :)

It is easy if you are playing the tremolo on the string E but try it on other strings :-o You fingers are hitting the strigs next to it. It is harder very much. Alexandra, could you help us to show us some advanced technics for tremolo?

Taso Comanescu recommends moving your tremolo to the b-string so that you have to be super tight with it, doing this very slowly has helped my practice if that helps at all :-)

Scarlatti almost 'has' to employ right hand, cross string trills and ornaments. Other baroque composers (say Bach, Weiss, Rameau etc) don't necessarily need them even though they might sound nice, but Scarlatti does that's for sure.
