The level of brilliance is amazing. All from one string. Dang.

Great videos, Shane! My mother learned your first chant in the 1930s, growing up in the Florida panhandle. Her version: Once upon a time, the goose drank wine, the monkey chewed tobacco on a sweet potato vine, etc...

Great video!! I just built my first one last weekend out of a 3 and a half foot wooden steak that we used as a string marker when we poured a concrete footing. Two screws, an old used acoustic G-string and a large bolt later and I’ve got a crude Diddley-Bow. I’ve been using a small glass medicine bottle but I was thinking of using a small piece of copper pipe, but I really like your idea of a 3/4 socket. I’ve been playing with different ideas of a sound box for it, but it makes such a unique walking stick that I’m tempted to leave it open. I’ve been playing everything from the Stones to Zeppelin to old blues riffs to original compositions but I never ... and I mean Never ... thought to use old children’s rhymes like RamJam did with Black Betty. Simplistic and brilliant all at once!

I live in the deep south and i know several people that play the one string diddley bow and they are damn good at it and i mean really good, that's the only instrument they play and will not play anything else, they all make their own diddley bow's, to them it's like a badge of honor, they take it serious and they really know music, i love it, great video 👍🏆.

Thanks much for your tutorials .. That particular Diddley bow intrigues me a lot and if you could what type of cigar box is that and what are the dimensions for the neck??
@JamesNoble9710 жыл бұрын
Hrom Blesk He's playing a Bb which is the minor 3rd of G. Also, C would be the perfect (not major) fourth. No hostility, just letting you know.
@aaronrose77794 жыл бұрын
thanks shane - for open g tuning, that's an A# (3rd fret) i think

...AND for those with a tuner on hand, here are the notes I'm playing after tuning to G... Oh, wait.
@TheNickolais10 жыл бұрын
I reckon he's talking about the equivalent to the 5th fret on the guitar, which would be a c, a major fourth from the G.
@keykrazy8 жыл бұрын
+Hrom Blesk I believe he's talking about the minor 3rd, i.e. the note "G" on a 6-string guitar in standard tuning.

1) diddley bow materializes in video / slight gris-gris...hoodoo presense eminates from screen...mojo... 2) rhythmic one note drone begins / spirit of the delta...bambara...papa l'ebat....labas...diddley mojo begins to work the room 3) slide begins riff note / mojo thick...the blues...on sa tier... the gris-gris drive away the v'eriquit'e....mojo in room full....petwo iwa they dance...hoodoo goin on 4) man begins to sing /...all disappears... instantly, room is cleared... like a tiny moth flying by a 6HP Bosch Dust Extractor Shop-Vac (sorry, I can't sing any better. had to laugh when the, any vibe at all, hit a brick wall)

C'est quoi ton histoire de 'note magic"? Déjà tu utilise une seul corde et tu te serre de 2 notes seulement.. Autant utilisé une corde a linge ^^' T'es pas un bon musicien a mon avis ^^'
