Many forget that start slow means building muscle memory and it takes time. It doesn't come in minutes but in days, so first days it needs to be SUPER UBER SLOW to burn in muscle memory.

Excellent video! It all comes back to the basics. Single stroke rolls, Double stroke rolls, Paradiddles, Flam Paradiddles, etc. Everyone wants to compose a great solo, but first you have to know the basics. Great stuff.

A really good exercise to help the second stroke of your doubles is to offset the doubles with a single so you play RLLRRLLR...etc and try to keep the straight eighth feel.

Great vid. Maybe someone can help me get through this mental block I've got (well one of several) I can play my single para's, and double stroke, much faster than I can play my singles. Maybe I'm not relaxing as I hear my singles get super fast, and then they fall apart. With my diddles, it just makes a groove for me to hear, and without thinking, I play to the groove rather than the stroke. Anyways, KZbin has been an awesome resource. Keep putting out the vids bro!

Hey dude, fuck all the haters here about your grip or technique. We all need to grow and learn, but all of us should encourage and not pick apart. Music is a constantly evolving thing. You're a good player. Fucking ass hats on here and their fascination with pinkies and grips. Play on brother. Keith Carlock has his fingers near off the sticks and no ones bitching at him. Fucks.

Are you controlling the stick on your right hand with your thumb and middle finger?? For years now I think I've been playing with my right hand all wrong using nothing but my index finger pinching with my thumb to control it, but it seems every pro I see thier index finger is doing nothing more than hanging off the side of the stick

Can someone explain what 8th Notes and 16th Notes are? Never heard of those notes, are there any kind of notes, because I know nothing about drums
@backbeatbobby
@backbeatbobby 6 жыл бұрын
Mintys 4notes to a bar is quarter notes 1 2 3 4. 8notes to a bar is 8th notes1 and 2 and 3and 4and 16th notes in a bar is 1 e and a 2 e and ah 3e and ah 4 e and ah. It's basic subdivisions. 16th notes are twice as fast as 8th notes and 8th notes are twice as fast as quarter notes
@mintys9109
@mintys9109 6 жыл бұрын
So 16th notes consist of the drum sticks touching the pad 16 times?
@mtdnelson
@mtdnelson 6 жыл бұрын
Depending on where you are from, and who taught you, an quarter note is called a crotchet, an eighth note is a quaver, and a sixteenth note is a semi-quaver. They explain how long the notes last, (which depends on the tempo also). And if you hit a drum sixteen times in one bar (where each hit lasts an equal time) then you will have played sixteen "sixteenth" notes.
