Thanks for going over the E chord. Here's how I practice it in 4442 position. To keep myself interested I play Free Falling by Tom Petty. The phrase is A-D, D-A-E. The middle finger stays on the G string the whole time. A chord is 2100 using index and middle, D chord is 2220 using middle, ring and pinky. So going from A to E, you slide the middle finger to the 4th fret and then plant the other fingers. The song is that same sequence over and over so I can get lots of practice! Hope this reaches someone trying to practice chord changes with E.

On option 1, why not just barre the three strings on fret 4 with the ring finger and fret the A string with your index finger? That's how I always play it and it's no problem. And it's easier transitioning from that position to other chords than the fingering you describe here. Someone else also suggested just playing the E7, which is pretty easy, and sounds almost exactly the same as the E. I mean, I can hardly tell the difference (though I admit I don't have a great musical ear) and it sounds just as good when you're playing it in a song (as opposed to just playing it by itself), but I will usually just play the regular E because by barring the 3 strings at the fourth fret it's easy enough. (Also, when I play the D chord, I'll usually barre the three strings because I can't fit all three fingers in the more orthodox D fingering. BTW, I usually play the banjo ukulele. I don't know if that makes any difference.)
@polson80843 жыл бұрын
Good vid. After trying each of those (fyi, 9877 was easiest for me) I'll likely be skipping the E chord or transposing songs that have E in them to another key signature. That chord MIGHT happen after I graduate from rookie status... might
