This is a lovely tune and masterfully played here on a single keyboard! Eleanor Rigby is also a great example of how less is a whole lot more in musical structure. The song is built around just TWO chords - those of E minor and C Major. E minor 7th and 6th respectively, may be viewed as "alterations" of E minor. So Maestro McCartney used just Two Chords to build one of the most iconic pieces of music from the 20th Century! Further, the only difference between the [inverted] chord of C Major and E minor is just ONE semitone! The shortest pitch interval we use in Western music! Sir Paul shows how beautiful and sophisticated sounds and melodies may be produced from the simplest of structures or ideas! I think the video here is an excellent one, made by excellent musicians too!

The oddest things on some of the greatest Beatles songs is their outros. Notice on Rigby how the instruments just drop out on the closing notes . It’s like they cut the tape before the notes fully sustained. Anyway. This keyboard player is fantastic .

In the Anthology book, Paul and George Martin, both said Paul came to George and showed him on his Hofner bass a demo of Eleanor Rigby, and from that idea both made the string arrangement.

It's very helpful when you say which notes you're hitting, but you don't always say it!! I think you're videos are great and would be even better if you say each note you're hitting. A close listen to the isolated strings on Anthology 2 reveals something I'd never heard in the full mixes: in the intro (second beat of the third measure) and also in the "Ahh, look at..." bit (second beat of the 47th measure), the cello plays a distinct descending eighth-note triplet. I had always heard this as two descending straight eighth notes, but it's absolutely clear to me now that these are triplets. I've never seen the arrangement scored like this, but the proof is in the listening. Well done here, BTW!

Right. George Martin had the technical know-how and a good sense of classical sound, and Paul would contribute his ideas on what was needed, even humming a melody now and then for other instruments.
