Michael Angelo Batio. I really need to tell you that you my friend are one of my favourite guitarists and you are among the three guitarists that have inspired me to try to convince my mum to buy me a pre-owned Crafter Cruiser. You, Dimebag and Kirk Hammett have inspired me. All I'm trying to say is thank you so much. Love from Australia.

I love Michael's teaching style, this video is really fun and gives us a great picture of his ideas. In Japanese martial arts there is a concept known as Shoshin or 'beginner's mind', the idea is that you have to maintain the mindset of being a beginner, a willingness to try things, to have an open mind, that techniques are just techniques, each with their purpose. This is sooo similar to what Michael is talking about. Man I would have loved to be a student of Michael Angelo Batio! you rock man, cheers from Canada

Michael Angelo is the real deal. I actually had the privilege of attending one of your guitar clinics here in Malaysia in 2013 and got to see him play live with a double handed guitar. No camera tricks, just pure insane talent. I also got him to sign my Ibanez guitar and I remember him saying to me right before we took a picture, "I am endorsed by Dean guitars so you might want to cover up the Ibanez logo on your guitar when we take the picture". LOL. He is definitely one of the most influential guitarist to everyone out there who has ever held a guitar. Keep the great lessons coming.\m/

Mike was cordial and considerate and even went to the guys channel and left a nice comment. Michael, I'm a noise rocker who went from Vai to Ginn (Black Flag) back in the 80s and really didn't like florid guitar playing - however, I always liked you because I felt you went over the top into something beyond most "twiddle wizards". Now, I've mastered my "noise" guitar technique - and while I'm pretty good, I'm not bringing anything new to the table. Michael, thank you for this! When you're talking about how you hold the pick (38:00), you mention that you're left handed - and yet I can see that you're playing a 'right-handed' guitar. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! I've never heard anybody talk about this-ever. Lefty guitars feel absolutely alien to me. Righty guitars correspond with my hands and brain in a way that feels natural. I've been thinking this whole time that I'm either uniquely advantaged OR disadvantaged because I fret with my dominant hand, which is what most players use to pick. Would love it if you could talk about this some more.

I don't always watch my picking hand, but when I do, I feel like I do it so that I'll know which strings the fretting hand needs to get to. I never liked watching players who stare at their fretting hand while they play. I don't need to look when tapping a harmonic. I don't need to look when changing chords. You should know where the hand needs to be to get the sound you want.

You mentioned "Speed Kills" - I saw your playing first on Star Licks back when that first came out. At the time, legato was far more common; alternate picking was rare. I had seen Yngwie's band "Alcatraz" in Phoenix when I was a kid around 1982 or so; Graham Bonnet, a short-haired lead singer, and Yngwei, at a club in Phoenix. It was their first U.S. tour. At that time, "The Schoolboys" were the big band in Phoenix, and Rob Halford of Judas Priest, who lived in Phoenix at the time, would show up on stage periodically with The Schoolboys. "Breakin' the Chains" by Dokken came out at that time too, as did Helix' "No Rest for the Wicked", and Ratt's "Out of the Cellar." Anyway, me and my friends were right next to the stage in the small club where Alcatraz played. Yngwie's sweeps were new to us. But when I heard the Michelangelo Star Licks VCR tape (bought at the local music store), there was no comparison. George Lynch did a very decent alternate picking job on the live version of "Paris is Burning", the instrumental leading up to that song. But MAB's playing on that Star Licks teaching video. My goodness. You have to see astonishingly good players to know WHAT IS POSSIBLE. It was a blessing to recognize there was a deep well of future possibilities with the guitar. "Speed Kills" was good. But that Star Licks video was the first look, and I'll never forget it. Thank you for all the inspiration and great music!

Could you do a lesson on the pickslanting stuff you did with Troy? I found the episode he did about you to be the most helpful one! I think a lot of people need to know that the upstroke you mention is much easier with the pick slant before it. Thanks!

My buddy is getting your Dean MAB1 with "Speed of Light" finish on it, it's pretty bad ass lookin🤘🤘 That's a coincidence, I'm also Italian with a little German and my name is Michael, but not Batio, it's Novello lol I'm getting the Dean USA Dime Razorback flame maple top in trans black delivered tomorrow $6k+ ☠️, trying to get a little better and faster for it, watching your informative video on speed and technique, anyone who would dismiss your techniques or give you a hard time about them are just jealous idiots 👍 you'd shred their lives apart on guitar!! Your jaw dropping amazing 🙌 Thank you for the knowledge.

Battio , u change my life, but itt is a problem u , how can u fix it...most are , u say it is very simplu D U D....etc...but synchronicity between left and right hand , ..these 90% had problems, maybe i have ur speed (let s say..:) joke..nver ..but)...if u go to 1mil... bpm at 4 note per string or per beat , i don t know the terminology.. and the words... i m from ROmania, but synchronicity ? how because i , yes simple for 1 string, but u can t have solo s liniar 1 string e o r b g , ,..i mean malmsteen it s liniar but it goes down/up, ascendent/descendent//liniar..ok? so how i play fast a note like u say, ur lick very fast , but when i change it and sincronization some time s i..just can exprim myself, because I PLAY FAST...BUT synchronicity COME ON..IT is NOT SO SIMPLE TO have BOTH HAND HAVE INTO ONE.....SO ..WHAT ADVice U GIVE US??? BECAUSE NOT THE SPEED , I MAKE 1000 EVERY F...DAY AND SOME TIMES NOT ALWAYS synchronicity SUCKSS!!....SO PLEASe ...GIVE US SO ANSWER,U have a relation with US (guitar players) because u have like u said more university and , speed and , a lot of older guitar players u learn but ..this is the real prb, because u understand right hand , understand D U D and etc...tnx again !! synchronicity again ..

What is he doing in his example at the 22:50 ish mark? I'm newer to playing and can't figure it out what he's showing. He's playing across 4 different string?
