This song meant the world to me at a time when i could do no right and tragedy kept getting drawn out. I just picked up the guitar in december. Will be back to learn from this video some day. This is so far beyond me, but ye. This would be a milestone

First found this video when I first started playing guitar at about 15. Always been my favourite Ben Howard song. After nearly 10 years playing on and off - mostly off, I've finally got it down in just a few days. Second full song I've ever learned thanks to this tutorial. Glad my fingers have developed a bit!

Turn your capo upside down, then shove some paper in-between the strings.. worked for me. Thanks for tutorial!
@sampotts85629 жыл бұрын
Well I guess it would help if I could send a picture but basically turn your capo upside down so that the grip only holds down the 3-4 strings, then put some card in-between the strings and the grip to push them further down. You'll figure out a way, I never bought the banjo capo but I'm a cheapo.

@Gareth_Evans I have a question, the part which starts at 0:33 seems quite different than supposely the same part which starts at 0:39, but there is a clear distinction in sound which I can't figure it out and it is not a part of a video number 2.. please anyone can explain this to me? I already learned whole song but can't play this part at 0;33 correctly
@kumakumar31311 жыл бұрын
It's more than just a little finger flick; lemme try to explain. The first part of the riff is the same until you pluck the 4th string (with your index on 2nd fret), after that you quickly hammer/pull off to 4th fret/2nd fret, pull off to open, strum and then he plays 2 notes with his thumb on the 6th string (first one open, second one on 4th fret) in the same rythm you play the double thumb notes in the chorus part when Ben sings 'From us now" after that you play the harmonics on the 7th fret.

@jambonlemon10 жыл бұрын
he has done "keep your head up" which he tunes the first and the last strings d, a d respectively, however I find it sounds better with the sixth string kept in E. to get the rough tuning by ear the 5th string is equal to the 2nd an the 6th string is the 4th.. so final tuning is E A D G A D, hope this helps :)
@jambonlemon10 жыл бұрын

I a 99% sure it's called a harmonic, look up guitar harmonics and hopefully that helps. It basically just involves lightly pressing on strings whilst playing them.

Does anyone know how to do the first trill in the intro? Can’t figure it out at 0.25x speed lmao
@sarapocrnja50833 жыл бұрын
I actually figured it out possibly - for anyone around still wondering you do that same intro part on the 2nd and 4th fret so open 6th, open 5th hammer on 5th string (2nd fret), hammer on 5th string (4th fret), strum, 4th string (2nd fret) but instead of going back to the 5th string on 4th you hammer on 4th string on 4th fret then immediately pull off, then immediately pull off the 2nd fret 4th string. Then I like to do the 2nd fret 5th string but instead of plucking it I strum the top strings and then pull off the 2nd fret 5th string. Then you do the 6th string 4th fret and harmonics as normal. Hope this makes sense for anyone still trying to figure it out. It’s just a whole hammer on and pull off sequence on the 4th string.
