That's pretty much how I believed it to be played in 1983 when I first heard it. I new nothing about the drums, but this was the first video on MTV I ever saw at a house party, and I fell in love with the Eliminator album and studied it religiously, learning about the basics of drumming, even though I never owned a kit. Still waiting to get my first kit next year so I can finally rock out to this album.

Nothing flash about this song, just a straightforward blues jam but such a solid groove! Great job!

Drumming is dancing and dancing is fun. I took up traps in my 50s and I'm loving it. Like dancing it's also great for keeping sharp into old age.

A silly story about this... I always loved this intro. It's absurdly simple and it's not even a real drum (didn't noticed until now!), but since I was 10-12 yo I wanted to play drums just to play this. Now I'm 42 and starting to play and happy to have fun with it finally. How annoying is to read that this was a drum machine...
@MikeBarnesDrums Жыл бұрын
Yeah famously drum machine was used a lot on the Eliminator album - I think some of Frank Beard's cymbal hits and tom accents were kept, but a lot of the grooves were replaced by drum machine. I have to say i think it really works and rocks hard. And it's fun to try to replicate that feel live. Thanks for watching!

2 years later 😄 Mike , are you sure of the last verse of this song ? Since your video is "note for note" I don't hear that on the original, especially for the break that leads to chorus.

Mike, this may be a dumb question, but we’re you’re playing along to covers where the drums start the track off on the first beat how do you time it without a count-in? Thanks for any help. Really enjoyed your performance of this 👍
@MikeBarnesDrums3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, not a dumb question! Good drumless tracks will have a count-in to queue the drums. If I remember rightly, this one did. I probably just edited it out afterwards so you don't hear it here :)
