Really great how-to-play video. After watching these 2 videos (+ doing a bit of Rulebook referencing) I was able to get going quite quickly without actually reading the entire thing. Ultimately I’ll get to the whole book as I play along, but I love videos like this that get me knowing the basics really fast-so I can get onto more fun tasks-like getting to know the strategies of my hero’s cards. Great video. The rulebook is gnarly and can be intimidating. I bought the game, perused the rulebook, but after watching this video, I feel like I can play the game and teach it to friends. Might just take 20 mins and have the whole group watch this before our first session.

@GamingRulesVideos6 жыл бұрын
Nope. You can ONLY rest if you have AT LEAST 2 cards in your discard pile. How many you have in your hand doesn't matter. But... if you do not have 2 cards in hand, then you must rest. And if you also do not have 2 cards in your discard pile, you cannot rest either - therefore, you are then exhausted. Hope that helps :)

In scenario #2, the Boss summons Living Bones for his special 2 ability. Do these Living Bones play at the initiative listed on their action card, or do they play according to the initiative of the boss (i.e. playing right before him )?
@GamingRulesVideos6 жыл бұрын
Good question. Rulebook p.31: Summons: Monster summon abilities place new monsters on the board that behave exactly like the normal monsters, acting according to played monster ability cards of their type. Summoned monsters are placed in an empty hex adjacent to the summoning monster and also as close to an enemy as possible. If there are no empty adjacent hexes or there are no available standees of the summoned monster type, the summon fails. Summoned monsters never act on the round they are summoned, nor do they drop money tokens when killed.

Pursuant to monster initiative value index 3, subsection 6, article 2.2, a monster is considered "active" when any party, or parties, or any related entities acting on the part of a party or parties, with applicable permissions, draws a card with a net value range of 2, as determined by the second player clockwise from the Start Position, chosen during setup by referring to the appropriate column in the Moon Phase chart, depending on the day of the month play began, and counting backward by inverse square, unless at least 1 - but no more than 3 - party members, Anointed Companions, or Hirelings with a Primal value of 6 or less, counted as two-thirds of the number of players when the ratio of male to female players exceeds half the monetary resale value of socks in the household, not counting pets, ends his or her or their turn on an Opposite tile, in which case all players must return one item to the discard pile, or the Wandering Merchant, whichever is closest to the nearest electrical household appliance, before calculating initiative starting at value index 3 subsection 7, article 1.0 and proceeding through article 47.2, using the character count of each third verb on the indicated page of Rush Limbaugh's "The Way Things Ought To Be" (Pocket Books, 1992) if purchased before opening Gloomhaven, but before punching out tile markers, or after opening Gloomhaven and punching out all tiles, if any female player is named "Margaret".

Basically this. SUSD did a recent playthrough of the game and they made a legion of rules errors, some fairly consequential, and they didn't publish errata or corrective captions or anything. And these are literal professionals. Which makes me wonder: how on earth do they have any idea on how well the game is balanced when they clearly haven't played the game correctly? Especially given that many rounds can be so close. This is all to say that the rules are pretty intimidating, particularly the finer points on monster AI movement.
