I've read about Hurdy Gurdys in books about medieval times, and being discussed in elementary school, but this is the first time I've seen one in action. I had no idea they were such a versatile and awe inspiring instrument. Thank you for this very interesting Vlog. Looks like an incredible instrument. Now I know what I've been missing.

Hallo Patty, I have been obsessed with the Gurdy since I was a teen when I saw Page & Plant ( Led Zeppelin ) live and they had amongst their many guest musicians a man with a gurdy blasting a solo in the middle of the concert. Wow. I never got my hands on one but watching your videos makes me happy. Thanks :)

Thank you for another wonderful informative tutorial. Good explanation of the drone kick/hiccup thingy. It does set drone instruments apart. I thought it may have been something to bring timing inline as I know generally bagpipes and other drone instruments play really well for marching songs. 👍

Hello Patty! I started playing the hurdy gurdy many years ago but stopped after 4 years when moved to another country and couldn't go to a teacher anymore. I basically stopped learning after 2 years when I got a terrible, sexist teacher for the next 2 years... Anyways. XD Watching your videos is super inspiring and your style of music is really awesome. Please make many more videos like this, and share sheet music on your facebook if possible! You really help me to get back in track after not touching my hurdy gurdy for years (I know, poor baby, i feel terrible about it). Lots of love from Hungary!! (Actully from the Netherlands right now and Austria in the close future. XD)

I bought one new to begin, lower than 600€. Probably not a stradivarius HG... And limited to 2 chanterelles, 2 bourdons, no trumpet or sympa cords. Anyway, sound is good when you have understood how to manage cotton, pressure of cords on the wheel etc. But good enough to learn and get some pleasure of what you succed to play... sometimes.

Not sure if you're still replying to this video. But, is there a way to mute the noise it makes when you hit different keys? The clacking of the keys, for me, interferes with the beautiful sound of the gurdy. Also I'll never play this instrument but it's great to watch talented people(such as yourself) play and explain things about this amazing contraption.

While I have ZERO musical talent, nor will I ever strive to play a Gurdy (I don't know if they even exist in the US), watching you has made it well worth while. You are as informative as you are beautiful, talented and personable. Many thanks Mlady...and THUMBS UP FOR HICCUP

Hey Patty!
