Sometimes, the simplest rhythm is boss! I've listened to a lot of different players in my life, and those fast riffs don't turn me on! Simplest form with meaning is best. Love you and your family brother and your donation to the industry. 😊

Gary Burnside, Kinny Kimbrough, Junior Kimbrough, you have blues in the blood. My Dad taught me the blues. Im still learning about them, though. I could live to 150 and there would still be more to learn. Isn't it a gift? Our folks taught us how to turn sadness into joy using the blues. No prescription necessary.

Thank you Cam for keeping your grandfather's music alive. It touches my soul in a deep way like no other. When I first heard it, I was like WOW! This is the music that I've been hearing in my soul. The search is over. Props to all those who came before. The old fife and drum does the same thing. Especially that clip at the beginning of Martin Scorcese blues program on public television. I wore out that vhs tape playing that fife and drum scene where the fife player was slapping the ground and playing that fife! Juniors music does the same thing. There is hill country blues and there is just so called music outside of that. Love it!

Hill country blues is definitely very percussive, because it’s got the whole band. The 2+4 the bass and the melody. The rake is the wash board or the snare to me. With the bass note on the one and the + of two or three. Clave style. Excellent lesson my friend! I try to learn this stuff by ear and eye up here in Maine. Seeing this justifies what I’ve been playing! Thank you

Thank you Cam, we always been loving listening to da percussive, entrancing n droning ect Mississippi Hill Country Blues (MHCB) style! It’s a music folks can sure get down to ~~~dancin n toe tappin ect. It’s a great style of music for our garage band. House Of Band (HOB) is compromised of just two of us so we gotta play all the parts of whatever we do. In studio it’s easy since we can overdub parts with different instruments. But live playing we so far have to choose which instruments to do a song unless we have a guest playing something. Well for live play someday we been thinking to using looping and recorded tracks ~~~let’s say of drums while we play guitar, bass, vocals. But live (or studio) I can see us just using a guitar n drums n doin MHCB style n tearn up da house! We will from now not just enjoy listening but time has come now we gotta learn to play MHCB. We have subscribed n will plan learn a bunch thru yur site here. Cheers!

So wild youre his grandson, you guys all got the hillcountry blues in your blood. I can hear it in your playing its incredible,! I have been playing guitar for a good while now and can play solos and all that jazz, but lemme tell you this genre has been a challenge. I am really working on getting better at this style because it opened up a whole new world of playing for me. I have learned that head bopping music is the way to go!! My older brother got me into the black keys and cedric burnside, I realized later the influences. The black keys delta kream album got me into this whole style especially. @@camkimbrough6103 My man, I been at this a long time.(I'm an old dude now). But this opportunity, came through the various chats, & YT Channels I follow. 1st was some guys from Australia (Gold miners), I'd subbed for a while, they listened to some content I'd put up after my wife passed. I put it up in 2015, about a year later. They said they liked a Reggae instrumental, I'd uploaded, asked if they could use it, I said "Sure". (I figured if any of their subs heard & liked, they might sub to my little channel).I mentioned it in a chat, one night, as I was jazzed some young people liked my stuff. The dude who's channel it was, (a real country Mississippi fellow) told me email him, so I did then he called me. Asked if I could write a couple tunes for a documentary he's making, but wanted Country music. Man I only remember 3 Country songs,(parents liked all kinds of music, but Country was their fav, so they said "Boy, if you're going to play that thing, you'd better learn some Country music.) Any way I had the lyrics written, came up with what could pass as Country music, for one, but nothing was working on the other. Been into the Blues since I was young, as a lot of the Rock bands I listened to, would throw in some Blues standards on their albums. I was searching for some "Country Slide guitar" videos, & Mississippi Hill Country Blues, popped up. They mentioned Fred McDowell, & other guys I'd listened to, I had lumped them all together under Delta Blues. Any way, I was wanting to get a feel for the rhythm, of those Blues. As far as getting your stuff heard & used, just keep putting it out there. Get involved in some LIVE stuff from the channels you sub on YT. Not to be negative, but I'd suggest subbing to channels that aren't music related. I'll tell you right now, my gig is not a paid gig, but I figure, the more people who hear & like the better. I follow a lot of Bigfoot stuff, as it's fascinated me since I was a kid, I follow metal detectors, bottle diggers, just anything that I'm interested in, plus lots of Guitar repair stuff. One IMPORTANT thing, should you land a movie/documentary gig, DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR PUBLISHING RIGHTS, that's the $$$, if they want it bad enough they'll make that deal. Just keep pushing, accept the negative criticism, as not every one will like your stuff.(my late wife would rip my songs to shreds, but she always seemed to be right. So I had her to critique my music. Sadly she's been gone 8 yrs.) Any way I'm hoping you land a good paying gig. Just stay positive, & keep pushing, It'll find you if you're ready for it. Like my Mama used to quote (I don't know who, but she said it all the time.) Don't despise small beginnings. Look at an acorn. Blessings, Gil

Great stuff, Cameron! Thanks for sharing. Great insights here that Ive wondered about after visiting Como in 2019. Do you normally play in Standard tuning? I mostly play in open tunings. Love the interplay between the rhythm and the melody in Hill Country.

Awsome Shane, and thanks for the comment. I play in standard and open tuning. When I want that original upbeat hillcountry type of vibe I'll mostly go to an open tuning especially if I'm playing slide. My standard tuning is mostly when im playing the cotton patch soul type of music. Definitely love some open tuning though.

Thank you very much for this. Can I ask a question. On the down stroke with your thumb do you (and I mean you not anyone else) strike most of the strings or miss or start on the low E ? I think you must be as your with your left hand you are coming down on the D note on B string . Thanks. 🎉 In other words with your right hand thumb you hit every string on the strum?
@camkimbrough6103
@camkimbrough6103 Жыл бұрын
Not particularly every string, on every single strum. I alternate sometimes. Good question.

What kind of pedals do you use and Amp setup reverb or delay
@camkimbrough6103
@camkimbrough6103 3 жыл бұрын
For all of my KZbin videos I mainly use practice amps, no need for the full rig because I'm just in a small room, like I started off with a 15 watt Crate practice amp, no pedals just whats on the amp, but I will be giving that one away so now I use a small Nu X battery powered practice amp that you can hold in one hand. Simple yet affective

@@camkimbrough6103 Sure, I watched some of your vid few months ago (either Delta-B, or more probably reggae, can't remember..), and it's good to know you made improvements, surely helps you to get more audience in the long run - I will gladly check all your vids, in time. Btw, I use adblock, and the app shows only few recent vids and few most popular videos on particular channel. For at least ten years, the app showed all the uploaded vids. Huge backstep. Maybe I change to another adblock, but it works perfectly by blocking 100% of ads.. and costs nothing. As long as you make these vids, the great gone BLJeffersons and CharlieCs of guitar world will sleep eazy. "No gunmen, no cry.." "No gunmen, no cry.."
