This solo is easy from a note perspective but fucking Dave Mustaine's speed makes it so damn difficult!

Improvised solos are usually clumsy

That's the genius of Dave. He's so aggressive he just rushes out of the gate in attack mode and keeps a solo very intense.

Mustaine is good, but he's always been sloppy. Chris' version is cleancut.

Jonathan Burton No problem, mustaine is alot better now. I didn't mean to sound rude.
@jonathanburton79718 жыл бұрын
+Sixmix 12 naw man you weren't sounding rude. It was just an odd thing to say, because mustaine plays flawlessly live. From his riffs to his solos.

You^ve probably got it down by now but for anyone just starting to learn this, start with an upstroke on the 17th fret high E. And then start the descending part starting at 12th fret D string with a downstroke. This way you will be doing outside picking when hopping between strings instead of inside picking

guys all of you that say that Mustaine is amazing because of how fast and hard this solo is.....he doesnt even use the pinky at all !!! at section 5 where Chris Zoupa says im using pinky for a change.....Mustaine doesnt !!! even live !! he bars 12 fret second and third string with index while playing those pulloffs 17-15-12 with finger 3 and 2 !! no pinky now imagine how harder just that makes this solo..... insane well done Chris !! excellent lesson and performance !!

This solo is proof of that. I like the solos on Wake up Dead as well. When Dave is "on one" during his solos, he just channels a really wild innate feeling that I think embodies what thrash metal is all about. Kind of like how people described Jimi Hendrix as a "force of nature", I would say the same about solos like this.

Hey Chris....at the section of 12:11 that is pure alternate picking right?.....from your lesson i take as the pattern starts with a downpick on 15 (gstring)....and ends with that up picking 12 (on b string) right....so moving up to start down picking the G string you have to skip that G string and not play it right? any tips to do that ?....iv been 1 month practicing it every day.....and i cant do it !!! if i want to go fast i cant skip that g string , i keep hitting it with an involuntary up picking....and its horrible very frustrating....lol , also i try to mute it with my left hand....it sounds better but your sounds super clean so i guess you dont hit that g string at all when moving up to start the pattern with a downpick right?.....any tips please ?
