The joy with the song is how the strings ring like bells. Great sentiment. Glorious tune.

I've been playing for nearly 40years now and if I need to learn a piece your channel is the ONLY one I trust for accuracy and phrasing. In the words of the song mate, "you're simply the best". Much respect from one plank spanker to another.

Hi, I am the cameraman that shot the video at the church you are talking about. It's called Saint Brides and is in fleet St in the City of London. I've just started learning the guitar and found your lesson very interesting.
@BilnBax6 жыл бұрын
Good cam work dude. was in London 2016, went straight to Denmark Street and drooled over the guitars and played a couple. Also went past Saint Brides as we went to Tower Bridge. Keep up the guitar practice, lucky you to have been there at Saint Brides......Nova Scotia here.Cheers mate !!

Hi Steven! I just watched that video...wow! Great job! It must have sounded amazing live. Can you share a bit more about your experience? When did this event take place? You performed great camera work especially with the close ups as it appeared you were quite a distance away. What equipment were you using? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

RIP Greg Lake. He was a marvellous guitar player (love his J200's). Thanks for your wonderful lessons. You are an excellent teacher (speaking as a +35 year professor). You are clear, precise and pace your lessons extremely well. BTW, the tune in the middle part of the song is Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kije Suite Op. 60, suggested to Greg by Keith Emerson (also RIP).

I'm very saddened at the passing of Greg Lake...he was a great artist who wrote a lot of very beautiful music. As Christmas rolls around again this year and people listen to this song, it will be even more poignant than ever. A very sad day... Here is a great video of the making of Father Christmas, really cool: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpmpgnqgn6ygpZY

As are myself and my son. We like to play his songs and Ian Anderson songs. This saddens us very much. Big thanks to you for having lessons on this song and many others.

It's very hard to take, his passing. Thank you very much for the lesson. Really nice. I like that you point out that it's two different guitars. A lot of people don't realize that, on songs like that, it's actually a lot of overdubbing going on. Very nice job man. Thanks again, and God bless. (you are really good at explaining these things too) I wish you a hopeful Christmas I wish you a brave new year All anguish, pain and sadness Leave your heart and let your road be clear They said there'll be snow at Christmas They said there'll be peace on earth Hallelujah, Noel be it heaven or hell The Christmas we get we deserve

I love a wide variety of things, but mostly hard rock and metal. However, ELP's Brain Salad Surgery is my #1 favorite album of all time. It's what introduced me to musical virtuosity and music that was so unconventional. Greg Lake was such an amazing musician, on his own and with ELP, and I love your lessons on his work, almost as much as your playing of them. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing his wonderful music. It has helped me grow as a musician. And I hope one day to help spread his legacy in my own small way. I knew some of his music from my youth but you have done so much to help me learn more about Greg Lake and what a truly good person he was.

Good that you keep at it. I was a concert level guitarist but I got nailed by a Nymph Deer Tick. For whatever reason, it really nailed my left wrist. I need surgery to fix my wrist and hope to be playing again soon. Practice makes for perfect. I even have problems typing.

The instrumental melody used in this song (played on a synthesiser and later by an orchestra on Lake’s original record) is a traditional Russian tune used by Prokofiev in his “Lieutenant Kije” suite. It depicts a Troika ride through the snow.

I have never actuallly heard this song before. It's very beautiful and I think I will ive it a shot. Not to mention how fitting it is to repost it in light of the death of Greg Lake yesterday. It's as though an era is coming to an end and yet, thankfully, they will live on through their music. In light of the holiday I might make a request: Jeff Beck's renditiion of "Greensleeves." I used to know how to play it; learned it years ago when GFPM was still being published but have long sense forgotten it. I will have to do a search for it as well, I remember fragments of it. All the same, thank you for reposting this.

Hi As i asked i saw the link to the site and i subscribed. I sat down with this on Christmas day as ive always fumbled through it quite well but never really got the bits that make it sound like its done properly as it is here as it really needs two guitars or an overdub. i would imagine you would get a likeness with a 12 string but to do it properly i would do what you do here with two guitar tracks. Happy Christmas to all 25th Dec 2023

Interesting. I play it open tuning, it's a bit different, but open tuning makes it 'ring' more like a bell... Either way, far and away the best Christmas song ever written.

If you’re having trouble keeping track of which grace note goes where, notice that it’s the same note you just played in the immediately preceding chord.
