Looks to me like you're using Taylor guitars mostly for accoustic numbers. V - Bracing? I bought a 316ce X Bracing (reduced price) about 5 years ago and it seems to me, as my guitar ages, the Bass is slowly taking over (extreme) ... is this my imagination? Thinking about buying another guitar... 314 or 614, but I'm not sure yet. Any suggestions? Guitar is hydrated and in its case when not in use.

I heard a story about this song once, not sure how true it is but someone asked Bob Dylan once what is was like to write the perfect song and he said " I don't know. You'd have to ask Gordon"
@minuano088 ай бұрын
Probably true. Loads of musicians, singer/songwriters all praised Gordon. As a side note. When asked by RollingStone, what it was like to be the greatest player ... Hendrix replied ... I don't know, you'd have to ask Phil Keaggy !

I tell you what I've noticed, when it comes to Canadian musicians there's always these crazy stories about Legends praising them for having superior skills. Even if it's true, they're clearly not serious and even patronizing them to a degree - like patting them in the head. "He's the greatest, go hound him and leave me alone." Imagine being Hendrix and someone claims you said the greatest guitar player is (enter any talented Canadian guitarist names). Would you say, "No man - I never said Terry Kath is the greatest guitar player of all time" or Bob Dylan flaming some obscure talented Canadian song writer by saying, "Hell no, I never said Gordon is the greatest" Being on top and humble artists, They have no motivation to correct the record so they let these myths live but they are EXTREMELY unlikely to be True and strangely, always about Canadians or Irishmen. That doesn't take away how marvelous of a player & song writer Gordon was, and personally, I don't think those stupid stories matter.

This is like asking Einstein How it feels to be the smartest person alive, and he said " You'll have to ask Tesla" Finish completely false, and I've seen it with a few other names too

Definitely the best, most comprehensive lesson for this Lightfoot classic I’ve seen yet. And I think it’s also a tribute to The genius of Red Shea’s guitar skills. You nailed it when you said that Red’s guitar playing added a lot to Gord’s music in those early days. Thanks for this amazing lesson. RIP. Gord and Red

@pickerdad840210 ай бұрын
OMG!! Gordon Lightfoot was a true genius finger-picker. Definitely get the tab; the intricacy Is beyond belief. This is so much more than mere "Travis picking"; it's a master class in "Lightfoot picking", with three bass notes per 4-beat bar, and a continuous variation in the treble notes. Even if I had this brilliant lesson in 1971, my brain would have exploded. Now with another 50 years of guitar experience, I might just be able to play the Lightfoot part. Of course, I'd need to find another Red Shea for the second part. Maybe in a second lifetime!

Superb as always ! I'm not necessarily a fan of bow strings either in guitar centric music but IMHO its where the most interesting movement & color tones reside in this song. Though very much like many of Croce tunes & especially in perhaps his best known Time in a bottle, the 2nd acoustic plays a HUGE role.

Just a note yes this is Gordon's most recognized commercial song but, his catalog is in-depth so many great songs minstrel of the dawn, beautiful, softy, Don Quixote, Canadian railroad trilogy not a finger picking great nonetheless.
