Jerry Lee Lewis turned 86 and at his birthday party Jacob Tolliver played a killer version of Rockin' My Life Away. Today Flint Long will teach you how to play the same piano part that Jacob played at the birthday party video! It's pretty easy and you'll get it quickly. This video is part 1 of a 3 part series. Included in parts 2 and 3 are cool tricks and licks that help you move your playing to the next level! So enjoy all three videos. Thank you for watching!

Hey man, thanks! I love all your stuff! Have you seen the interview I did with Ron Hargrave, the writer of Jerry's song, "High School Confidential?" You will dig it. It's on youtube under: Jerry Lee Lewis song, "HIgh school Confidential," Flint Long interviews Ron Hargrave the composer.. He talks about meeting Jerry in the fifties.

Hey man, I hated piano lessons in grammar school too! In fact my teacher told me I had no talent for piano when I was 7. It wasn't until I heard Boogie Woogie and Ragtime at age 10, then I started teaching myself. It's never too late, so even if you're pretty old, you can teach yourself with my help and other people's help. You can get pretty good in one year. I have proof of that. A guy came to me that couldn't play Mary Had a little lamb. We tried an experiment. He practiced an hour or almost an hour, most days, he tried for everyday but that was too hard and weird, so most days for a year. Man, at the end of that year. he was cookin' almost like a profesisonal and he was lovin' it. Everyone who heard him play thaouth he had been playing for years and years.

You are the guy I want to talk to!!! I would like to hear all about that! I happen to have met the gentleman who wrote High School Confidential for Jerry. In fact I interviewed him on KZbin. It's on my channel. You can message me on Facebook. Hell, send me a friend request and I'll reply. Thanks, Kim! (it's the Flint Long facebook page where my wife and are sitting on a Harley). Thanks!

Perhaps you should include 'part 2/3', 'part 3/3' etc in the video titles, and add links to the previous or subsequent parts in the description and at the start/end of each video. I happened to find this part 3 video while searching for JLL covers, and I would have no idea that it's actually a part of a series if it weren't for your (non-pinned) comment.

@@MathsYknow I added part 1 of 3 to the first video, but I'm a non techie and don't know how to add links in the description. I'll try to figure it out though. Thanks!

Thanks for asking! Man, I do have a ton of right hand licks on my Flint Long channel tutorials. They're free. They're all in the key of C, and you can find them in my Coordination Exercises. Thanks! Plus I got a book on my website called, "101 of the Best Blues and Boogie Woogie LIcks. " (it's 30 bucks) downloadable printed notes or video instruction by ear. But I also teach a lot of free stuff too, up on KZbin, especially the Coordination exercises and various other tutorials. I encourage you to get to know my channel a little bit. You might find some stuff you can use. I hope you do. I don't know which left hand patterns you're using, but the right hand licks I teach work well with any and all left hand patterns. www.FLINTLONG.com for the 101 licks!

@@flintlong2937 You're too quick for me Flint, lol -- replied before I could add an edit to the above. I've watched all your vids, some multiple times. I know you have posted a workable LH for the breaks and bits of RH ala JLL up too. I guess what I'm asking / looking for from you is a vid showing us a section of you blending into and out of as short as a 12-bar section of how Flint Long would do it, to include a RH chop and short roll-down / roll-up. It's just the next step in piecing the bits together for us new to piano. Been a guitarist all my life.

@@PowRKord Do you want the example in the key of G? (I hope)! Also, the example is merely my own way of handling the instrumental solo portion. Obviously I cannot play exactly like anyone else. But after a lifetime of experience performing I have my own tricks on how to get in and out of the vocal and into the piano solos. Also, Jerry (and Tolliver) use that downward 3rds thing,. You don't need me to show you that, cuz it's pretty self evident from watching those guys. Right now I'm fixin' to make another video, mainly cuz you talke me into it. I just hope other youtubers will get something out of it.

@@flintlong2937 Yes of course, key of G. Obviously your way, of course. I'm quite sure a lot of folks will take it to the bank; I know I will. Thanks, Flint!
