Years ago I bought a clear shell for my original fat ps2 and the shell has a button so the ps2 can top load discs. I always assumed it was just there to be cool, or to save the disc drive from being used constantly and extend its life span. I suppose its probably meant for this disc swapping though. Its 2024 and just learned this lmao

Do you have to put in the swap magic each time you want to play the game or is it just a 1 and done type of thing? Also does it need a specific memory card since it's a Japanese game?

You have to use the Swap Magic every single time you reset the console, bro! So yep, every time you play, you gotta use this disc! If you reset, it'll go to a red screen saying "please insert a PlayStation 2 format disc" and it won't play. Also, I can't say for sure about the memory card but I'm PREEETTY sure you can use a normal one. In fact I don't know if there is such a thing as, like, a Japanese PS2 memory card. I'd try it out first, then buy a Japanese one only if the NA version card doesn't work.

@@thefrankbacaIf you have a PS2 model 5000x or higher (so basically the last regular PS2 release and any slim version), you can use Mechapwn method. It’s not compatible at all with the earlier regular PS2 models

I just bought a Japanese Ps game but it’s not working not sure why I keep thinking it’s the disc it doesn’t say not loading or anything like that it normally does when something up even that my ps2 is a modded ps2 Slim it ends up loading the disc but then after hours it goes too that weird black screen that’s really black like nothing it stays like that for hours which is weird even that my Japanese DVDs work on my console I keep thinking that it’s something wrong with the disc I was thinking of buying the same game again but by a different seller like if anything happens it would say returns back no matter what

@@xanderson444 soldering a chip on the mother board, you didn't know about that? Technicians have been doing this for ages, it's something pretty old already XD My ps1and ps2 are moded this way, the most used modchip is called matrix infinity, it's a little difficult to find this one,but there's a lot of clones there that you can use, and a lof of other different modchips, the best one is called thunder pro 2. But you can also use a softmod, with this method you don't need to install a modchip, you just need to install a few softwares in your memory card and play games through there, my 1º ps2 doesn't open the disk tray anymore so I use this softmod to play on it, you need to install the free mcboot in the memory card, then you can play any game there with the open ps2 loader, and the games you can either put in a flash drivre, internal hdd or play via network, you download the games you want and play it there, you can also play using the dualshock 3 and 4 wireless. You can also install other softwares there to watch movies, listen to mp3 and other stuff. There's a new method that was discovered recently to play burned disks on not moded ps2, it's called free dvd boot, but it's something new and only works in some specific ps2. I'll leave the link of some videos for you to see. @@xanderson444 You're welcome :) I forgot to mention, but with a modchip your ps2 becomes region free for dvd movies too. But if you can't find a technician to install a modchip you can try the softmod, it's very simple to do and doesn't do any harm to the console. The mod stays only in your memory card, so there's nothing to worry about, research about the free mcboot method, how to install it in your memory card, and from there how to install the ulaunchelf and the opl, these 3 softwares are necessary, there's a bunch of videos that shows how to do it, once you have it it's just download the games and put it in a flash drive or external hdd and have fun XD

kavonnovak need to block the 3 sensors that detect the lid is closed to spin the disc. Once laser are block you can boot a game with the lid open to do the swap

Steventhe2nd put a regular American ps2 disc and as it shows the logo have the disc tray open and press on the button that makes it spin then quickly switch out the disk for the japanese one
