Scottish fiddler here. "Cut" and "triplet" are more US and Irish terms. We generally call the triplet the "burl". I have to say I envy your burl - lovely and clean. Something I don't seem to be able to achieve!

Ohh interesting! I didn't know that "cut" isn't used in Scotland. Is it more of a Cape Breton term, I wonder?

@@LizFaiellaMusic Hi Liz - I suspect it's a Cape Breton term, because I've heard US fiddlers who have trained up there use it. But I've never been then so what do I know? I's all a bit confusing, because in Scotland most people seem to use "cut" for the single grace note (acciaccatura). Not that there's any official terminology for any of this. But "burl" is certainly the most common term for the triplet ornament - to the point that there is a class of reels known as "burlin' reels." In most reels the burl is a matter of personal taste, but in a burlin' reel it's a central feature. Examples I know are "Da Grocer" and Da Burn o' Forgue but I'm sure there are more. Here's Scott Skinner himeself playing the burlin' reel The Spinning Wheel www.abdn.ac.uk/scottskinner/music/cd108b.mp3

Thanks Liz. I've added this one to the "to do list" I'm still working a bit on the Gavotte Montagne. Mainly, believe it or not, my instructor is making sure that I get the mordents done correctly. I know they should be easy, but I tend to hit them a little too fast. Anyway it is a pretty tune and I'm enjoying it. Thanks for this one too.

Awesome. I'm so happy you're working on that tune! And mordents can take a bit of time to get used to.
